“Flying gas tanks” are profitable if the passengers can pay for the cargo that’s not.

Good examples include ATL-JNB (77L), and formerly EWR-SIN (a345), however the latter was “costly”, even being all business before retiring for 5 years.

There’s more to it, but that’s one aspect.

As far as destinations on both ends of the American continent, MIA is as close as you’ll get. Maybe ATL but it doesn’t serve as many destinations to South America as Miami. This is sort of what you have now with United’s 787s, except the sweepline goes farther up on the Dreamliner, eliminating too much blank space between the titles and bottom.

DL’s definition of focus city clearly isn’t volume, but relative size at the airport (SJC compared to SFO) or region (Austin’s service in Texas).

Something to think about. The longest 737 flights today cross the dang Atlantic Ocean. That was likely not even conceived back then when the 731 was first manufactured.

Could bidding kick less senior pilots from certain types into another aircraft type? (i.e., 757/767 pilot getting outbid by a former 747 pilot)? Seems like this would be discouraged to reduce training costs. Or is there also such a thing as "type" seniority?

As boring as it is, it’ll be replaced by the same thing that is replacing the Delta 763A; the 739, or a321, with frequency.

DL may not have Hong Kong, but realize AA doesn’t have Singapore. UA obviously is strong all-around in Asia.

Although the JV with KE is smart, it’s not “prestigious” as flying your own metal, but clearly DL just wants results, not glory, in this case and in Asia for the most part.

I think euroswhites only look good/decent if there are two other colors involved, preferably contrasting and not a different tone. As a person with debt, I’m not for it. It would certainly help me go to ATP, but it certainly would be unfair to people who were smart with their debt and made great sacrifices to reduce or eliminate it.

Reducing or cutting debt, or partial forgiveness or lowering interest are more sane proposals.

Agreed, it should be unique. Battleship grey was unique (but hated). Obviously it can’t be perfectly unique because of elements it may take from the design book already used by others.

Who knows if this would even be considered were it not for Delta’s partnership with Air France. MSY-CDG doesn’t seem so crazy if you think of the route as existing to compete with BA (and DE), but with some AF paint instead of DL. I don’t know what the O&D in relation to MSY-LHR.

How did GA aircraft on CTAFs get escorted down? Was the announcement made on all frequencies?

I can't imagine there was enough fuel for all the jets parked at Gander to get back to their destination, assuming they had to burn down to MLW before landing.

Likely would be any unserved Star Alliance hubs (DEN, EWR). Then maybe something out West: SAN (unlikely), LA Basin airports (ONT), LAS (very likely). Everything else doesn't seem to have as much luck (DFW, ATL, SLC, DTW).

I haven’t looked at a route map in forever. However I like to search routes between city pairs and look at what airline services it, and what type is/are used. Was looking at DFW yesterday and looking at where the MD80 still goes.

I’m surprised, that if the 788 is AA’s 767 replacement, that more aren’t already present in MIA. Probably just consolidating them there now and putting 788s at other places that used to see the 767 more often (ORD and DFW). Once they’re out it’ll probably see 787s or other narrowbodies.
