Re: How do airlines decide crew bases

How do airlines decide which cities become crew bases? I always assumed it was only at the hubs. But I recently flew a Delta flight from LAX-LAS and they announced that the crew were San Francisco based. SFO is not a hub for Delta and they only fly from SFO to a few other cities (all DL hubs). There will never be a so called ‘passengers bill of rights’ the airlines will make sure of it. I Know at my US Carrier, crew can refuse to fly to places that require the Yellow Fever Vaccine if they don’t have it. The bid system won’t assign trips to those destinations, and scheduling can’t reroute you there. It’s an easy way to never have to fly certain Africa or South America trips.
