Well there certainly are issues on the CFM side as well. A lot of unscheduled maintenance on the Leap 1B. Frequent boroscoping and fuel nozzle replacement springs to mind.

Looks like it came out of the North Atlantic track at FL290, which sounds quite low given that it left the US eastern seaboard at FL350. Also there are steps just in front of the engines. DC-8s only had a front passenger door. The stretched ones (-61/63) had a “jetescape” exit between the front door and the wing and also behind the wing (similar as much discussed 737-8200/900/-9 emergency exits).

Am I missing something here but why would the pilots be excited about flying a 737? It is less pilot friendly and in Europe limits your options for moving elsewhere, as nearly every airline has Airbus. Contrary to OP, I will almost go out of my way to avoid 737s. Just dislike them (and I flew them for a while). Otherwise pretty much don’t care. The CRJ/ERJ stuff is universally pretty awful. Like the A220 though.

MSP tower controllers used to cut it pretty close (probably still do), more than once I had the lineup clearance similar to this (an airplane just landed in front of us): “XXX123, traffic (4) miles final, lineup and wait 12L, don´t spool down” and as we lined up an “ immediate” takeoff clearance.
