Re: Status of London Heathrow's 3rd Runway

As far as I recall, the 3rd runway was approved a few years ago. 1) Has there been any progress....meaning have they acquired the land for it and demolished al the structures on it. 2) Has the runway construction begun? If not, what are the general proposed dates for it? 3) When it a realistic time...

Re: Official: AA moving to LHR T-5

Mainly because Heathrow have said they are moving temporarily. At the end of the day, HAL says who goes where into which terminal not AA. I get AA are pushing hard for this and claiming it’s 100% permanent but Air India also said there was no way they’d leave T4. Only time will tell. There are 2 th...

Re: What is the future of LGW? What will it mean for the other hubs?

It has the best railway linkage and adequate National Express coaches. It does indeed, I've found LGW is actually easier to get to central London than LHR - the train is so much quicker than the tube from LHR and it's still reasonably priced. And switching between terminals on the Heathrow Express ...

BA London Heathrow routes gone so far: - Helsinki (HEL) - Beirut (BEY) - Leeds/Bradford (LBA) Summer seasonal gone for S20 (unclear if they will return): - Podgorica (TGD) - Charleston (CHS) - Calgary (YYC) They had already cut the Helsinki frequency to 1 per day before this happened, with Finnair ...

Re: Coronavirus Aviation Related News & Discussion Thread - April 2020

BA have been flying a number of repatriation flights from India to the UK over the last few days (finally) with more to come. I noticed that a number of these are flying via Bahrain both outbound and return - is this for refuelling / crew changes due to restrictions in India ?

Re: Virgin Atlantic facing collapse

It would be extremely short-sighted if VS is deliberately left unsupported. Virgin Atlantic is not in a unique position - as lots of other companies find themselves in the same boat, a solution regarding delayed lease, rent and other payments has to be applied to everyone. If the UK Government does...

Re: Coronavirus Aviation Related News & Discussion Thread - March 2020 - Part II

Not everything can be done remote. The airlines seem to be trying to practice the measures put on others, made much easier with 10%-20% load factors. Yes, and thanks for the measured response. Seems like there are overreactions on both sides. My job happens to be one considered essential, so each d...

Re: Coronavirus Aviation Related News & Discussion Thread - March 2020 - Part II

With the news that all flights via UAE are suspended from Wed, this means a lot of Western Europeans are going to stranded all across Asia and Australia. Are repatriation flights being organised by anyone other than the German government? Or is the advice going to be to just stay where you are for t...

Re: Coronavirus Aviation Related News & Discussion Thread - March 2020 - Part II

Does anyone know where there is a list of BA changes/cancellations? Their website is very coy, it seems you can only find out about changes by checking your individual bookings. They don’t seem to have issued any press releases.

Re: BA retimes LHR-BOM Flight

BA has teh A380 in its fleet. If it can't get more LHR slots to do LHR-BOM why can't it upguage capacity by using its A380s? tighter inventory = bigger profits :) 10 years ago when I flew LHR-BOM regularly, BA was flying twice daily 744s. Plus Jet twice daily and Virgin as well. Now BA is up to 18 ...

Re: How the Boeing jet no one wanted became the plane airlines scour the planet for

I travelled a lot on Finnair MD80s before they were replaced with Airbus A320s - they were very nice to travel in, assuming you were on the 2-seat side and somewhere just ahead of the wing. Near the front seemed to accentuate turbulence - is this because the front pitches more due to the wings (and ...

Re: AF66 CDG-LAX (A388-F-HPJE) diverts to Goose Bay (YYR) with an uncontained engine failure to #4 engine

How much knock-on impact will this have on AF schedule if the plane is out of action for several weeks/months? There is obviously the immediate disruption (cancelled flights LAX-CDG and YUL-CDG last night), presumably the outbound flights from CDG using the A380 and diverted 777 today will also be d...
