It’s amazing how AA can run a 900 flight a day mega hub at DFW while down the road IAH has struggles and now cutting 2 more destinations. It’s puzzling to me why UA can’t seem to make it work especially since it’s basically their only southern hub. In the south it’s basically AA or DL and UA has be...Jump to post
I have previously mentioned AS possibly adding SEA-CVG nonstop service in order to better compete against DL in the SEA market. There are also business ties between Greater Seattle and Greater Cincinnati such as the significant Amazon presence in Northern Kentucky and the Boeing-GE Aviation/CFM Int...Jump to post
Why is a 6-7am departure not "that great"? Simple, most people enjoy sleep. Fewer humans 'want' to wake up at 3:30am for a 6:30am flight versus waking up at 6am for a 9am flight. If they are in that much of a time crunch to arrive at their destination early, many travelers would rather ju...Jump to post
UA ending DAY-IAH in April 2020. Sad to see this one go-- DAY's only add in recent memory. Oversized equipment (E75), low premium demand, and less desirable flight times never allowed this one to realize its full potential. Personally, I think they should have attempted it with an E45 before cutting...Jump to post

My thoughts. 1] Timing on the DAY departure was never that great, btw 6:15-7am. 2] Equipment was not right (ERJ-175) given that F was nev...Jump to post

The market concentration in the DC area was a big sticking point. With the UA hub at IAD and US holding a large slot portfolio at DCA the authorities frowned upon this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk This was indeed the major sticking point. And do not forget USAir's substantial BWI obs at the ...Jump to post
Caught in live action. Looks more agreeable to me here, in real life.
It is growing on me. However, I am disappointed at the lack of purple. A small touch somewhere (winglets?) would have been truly unique and identifying. A blue, purple, gold livery would have been lovely. The light blue is fairly jarring, and I do not think, particularly on-brand. Why they chose the...Jump to post
Curious if they use Ellington Field. Continental Express was flying there (to IAH) back in the early 2000s.Jump to post
My bet is that purple makes a big splash. Seems everyday they are using more and more in their branding. Saw this on the United company store...gives an idea what a purple-and-navy application may look like:

I will be eagerly awaiting this reveal. Subtly, the brand has been advancing for the past couple years. Personally, I really like the ever-expanding use of the "corner" of the globe logo. Depending on the particular application, it can be made to look more of a globe, or more of a...set of...Jump to post
HOU, EWR, LGA, BOS, DAL, ORD come to mind from personal experience...based on the particular approach pattern, of course.Jump to post
I think Toledo, OH and Corpus Christi, TX stand out the most to me. Good candidates for a 1-2x daily large RJ to start.Jump to post
Echoing those above. UA's EWR C is in no need of being leveled, plain and simple. It is easily one of their best hub facilities and one of the nicest in the NYC metro area, even before the recent renovations. There are MANY other places that need more attention at this point. And not just at United...Jump to post
DL CVG-IAH DEC 1.0>0.6 Is DL really cutting back on CVG-IAH nonstop service, or is this a misfiling error? WN could add CVG-HOU nonstop service in order to fill in a void with DL cutting back on CVG-IAH nonstop service and with F9 having discontinued CVG-IAH nonstop service. UA dominates on this ro...Jump to post
jplatts, just some constructive criticism. I suggest reading your posts aloud before submitting them. Run-on sentences with repetitive information are headaches to read and sift through. I'll give you Delaware but please stop about New Jersey. The part of southern New Jersey that is parallel to IAD is the end of a long thin peninsula that runs several miles out into the Delaware bay. It's not even close to being parallel with Camden, Atlantic City or Millville which is where the bu...Jump to post
All of this mention of CVG's concourses A & B "rapidly aging" cracks me up. Anybody remember the old T1 & T2? Anybody familiar with EWR Terminal A? Or all of MEM? Or ORD T2 & T3? Most of LGA? All of CLE? These are "rapidly aging" (aged) facilities. Yes, some of these ...Jump to post
AA DAY-LGA JUN 1.8>3 JUL 1.9>3 AUG 1.9>3 UA ORD-DAY MAY 5>7 Nice to see some adds at DAY lately, especially UA IAH-DAY coming in June, even if AA adding LGA frequencies is almost assuredly reactionary to DL dropping the route. Interesting to compare DAY-NYC with CVG. This summer DAY will be looking ...Jump to post
Really, really, REALLY rooting on WN CVG-HOU. Living south of the city, Hobby is my preferred airport but as it stands right now, connecting flight itineraries to CVG via MDW and BWI are simply woefully bad from HOU. Prices are already pretty good from IAH on DL, UA. Just hate the extra 30 minutes i...Jump to post

Food for thought.... I wonder if...Jump to post
I echo UA IAH-DAY, a significant hole on both ends. I for one would benefit. However, I also enjoy the multiple, well-timed (and all two-class!) UA Express flights from IAH-CVG, which is no doubt at least partially supported by the lack of DAY.
Would love to see UA IAH-CDG.
I have fond memories of transiting through CVG in the summer of 2003. Man, what a booming operation! Obviously it was RJ-dominated, but mainline ops were also still going strong at that time, sitting somewhere around 200 daily. All of Concourse B and all but a few gates on Concourse A were dedicated...Jump to post
Ah, DAY. My former, long-time home airport. DAY was booming through the 00's decade, at one point being amongst the fastest growing airports in the country, led by strong performance on DL, FL, and US. CVG's recent upswing has been DAY's downfall. Not only is CVG winning now on price, it is winning ...Jump to post
I do not see F9, G4, WN, or UA moving to Concourse B, for the foreseeable future. During traffic banks, DL occupies most gates already. Giving up these few gates to AA will keep things fairly tight. Maybe one lone B gate goes to a random future carrier, e.g. AS, otherwise I see irreconcilable encroa...Jump to post
I find these predictions about a major AA expansion to be...surprising. DL still has a large operation flying to most of this country's major business markets plus a daily widebody transatlantic flight and multiple west coast flights. Both UA and AA serve most of their respective hubs with multiple ...Jump to post
Any updates on the timeframe for IAH? I know they are working on bringing it to the existing United Club in Terminal E, supposed to encompass at least the top level from what I had heard.Jump to post
I will bite. I think it is more helpful to look at what they tried to do, and also what they were unfortunately forced to do, to get a sense of where they would have liked to have wound up. Pan Am tried to build up domestic feed into its hubs. It tried to acquire Northwest Airlines but was outbid. T...Jump to post

Nice to see IAD (and DAY!) get a few adds.
Sounds like Ecuador is the intentional route. NK isn't really major on the west coast anyhow, compared to the likes of the Midwest, each airline has their niche, WN wants to be the airline for CA, AS wants to be a west coast airline including the PNW, B6 likes the east coast to Florida, Spirit like...Jump to post
DL is bringing back ERJ's to CVG next fall, looks like CVG-BOS/LGA to start. It is interesting that CVG is and has been for many years a 100% CRJ station. Simply not true. DL ERJs have been around CVG for most of the past decade. DL phased the ERJ-145's out starting in late 2015 and since then no r...Jump to post
I could see Allegiant significantly cutting back at CVG at some point since Allegiant is already in the airports surrounding CVG other than CMH (including DAY, LCK, IND, SDF, and LEX), since Delta, Frontier, and Southwest all serve most of the Allegiant destinations that have nonstop service out of...Jump to post

I think the fact that one airline in A is going to B.
Want to turbocharge a network transformation that otherwise is going to take half a decade to complete? Redeploy hundreds of daily flights you already have to better, stronger hubs. As much as I have hoped for success and growth, I think the writing is on the wall for the IAD hub. They missed the bo...Jump to post
I see CVG WN ops running long the lines of the other Midwest DL hubs going to around 20 destinations when the station matures. Maybe the situation changes if F9 and G4 can't make CVG work.
