MAD and MAN seem like no-brainers. If I was thinking something a bit riskier, I'd say DUB, which not only has strong transfer traffic to ASEAN and Australia/NZ, but also is unable to be reached from other ASEAN hubs like SIN and KUL, due to its runway length. Ireland's economy is booming - it's now...Jump to post
VN unfortunately still couldn't launch a nonstop to the USA even if it wanted to, due to its continued FAA Cat2 status. Not sure what their Canadian rights would be. Nothing stopping TG from doing it today; they've got several different aircraft that could make the distance-- doubt they have any pl...Jump to post

What are your thoughts on Hawaiian Airlines using Tokyo as a 5th freedom hub for Southeast Asian flights?Jump to post
LAX is just too huge of a market for AS to completely "de-hub". All sizable US carriers operates some form of a large focus city or hub in LA, and for AS to bail on that market would be bad, even from a PR perspective. SFO will likely reduce, simple because the market isn't as big and UA ...Jump to post

PS: perhaps you have a better title than just "Lufthansa 777s" which first made me think about their cargo fleet.
It was always a mystery to me why LH doesn't use 777s, while almost every other major international airline in the world does. I know they just ordered 777-9s which will be delivered starting 2020, but why haven't they been doing so?Jump to post
I would add that Vegas does not provide the closest infrastructure for going to Lake Tahoe. The two are separated by a 7.5 hour drive on a pretty desolate highway. . That is a big part of what people here want to experience. Being in the middle of nowhere. You cannot do that here. Exactly. The Germ...Jump to post
Given the recent trend of European low cost airlines like WOW, Norwegian, and Condor to fly into niche North American markets, will the Lake Tahoe and Reno area join the party? I can definitely see at least a summer seasonal Condor to FRA. In fact, because Lake Tahoe is a year round summer/winter de...Jump to post
So maybe it won't be unusual to link Deadhorse, AK with Dubai How many people live and work in Deadhorse, AK? Is it comparable to Houston, Moscow, and Dubai? Answer is zero. Realistically, the best that MKE can hope for are flights to Iceland when it comes to Europe. Maybe MKE can convince either WOW or Icelandair...pull off something similar to what MCI did. SFO need a nonstop flight to South America. I am not expecting UA and hopefully either Latam or Avianca will come to SFO soon. LAN Peru operated SFO-LIM with a 767 until 2014 (I think). Flying to South America doesn't fit with United's strategy right now, not to mention the lack of gate space. Avia...Jump to post
The world's first 777, built in 1994 and operated by CX from 2000 to this year, is retiring and being used as a tourist attraction in Arizona. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/09/1 ... hnl_n7771/
You know you've made it when you're able to retire at 24.

Texas, Russia, and Dubai (UAE) are are major oil producers. I think many of the passengers were oil industry's workers and executives.

So what are some of the most unusual airline routes, which connect city pairs which you wouldn't think there'd be any reason to do so? One that comes to my mind is Condor from Fairbanks/Whitehorse to Frankfurt. Any others? The ones you mentioned I think take the cake... At least ANC has somewhat of...Jump to post
KE and QF most logical. SQ is a possibility. SQ 1/2 have historically been among their highest-yielding routes so the case to mess with that formula would need to be strong... I don't think the SQ A380 will come to SFO, as SQ is adding a second nonstop flight. Their focus may be on frequency and pr...Jump to post

I don't follow tennis closely but it seems the rules are applied very loosely. When an umpire coaches a player and there is no sanction of any kind, all pretenses of fairness are off.
