Re: Shock waves

1.: Depends. Sometimes it remains supersonic (weak oblique shock), sometimes it slows to subsonic (strong oblique shock, normal shock, detached shock). 2.: There are no shock waves in an expansion fan. Shock implies compression, i. e. the opposite of expansion. There is an infinite number of Mach w...

Shock waves

Hello, it´s been a while since I started learning about shock waves, but I still don´t fully understand it. So I have a few questions. 1. After supersonic airflow encounters a shockwave, does it remain subsonic or does it return to supersonic? 2. Why do shock waves occur in Prandtl–Meyer expansion f...

Joining North Atlantic Tracks at half-way

Hey! I was wondering how do you join NAT at half-way? (eg. joining Track U PORTI 47/50 50/40 51/30 52/20 LIMRI XETBO at 51/30) How ATC manages to separate the traffic without the radar? Is any additional clearance needed to join the track from a random route? Also can you switch between tracks? (if ...

Re: NO FIR zone

The rules of the air that applies are the rules of the country where the aircraft is registered, I.e. US registered aircraft follow FAA rules. In practice they follow the rules of whatever rules are more restrictive, FAA rules or the rules of the country they are operating in as found in that count...

NO FIR zone

Hey,

I recently came across NO FIR zone between Bodo and Murmansk oceanic airspace. I wonder what rules apply in these areas and can I find them elsewhere in the world?

Thank you in advance, GeographyFlyer.

Descent in a holding pattern - Boeing 777

Hey guys,

What mode (FLCH,VNAV,V/S) do you use when you are given a clearance to descent in a holding pattern? Or do you program it into the FMC? (B777)

Thank you very much in advance, GeographyFlyer.

Polar ops on the 777

Hey guys, I have another question, this time especially for the 777 pilots. Could you tell me how do you configure your plane before flying close to the North pole? (and how it differs from normal ETOPS flying) And also how do you use grid charts? You can tell me every detail, I´m very interested in...

EO SID in the FMC [B77]

Hey guys,

here I am with another question: If EO SID is provided, is it somehow set into the FMC just in case? If so, how? (referring to the 777)

Thank you very much in advance, GeographyFlyer.

Weather radar panel on Boeing 777

Hello, so, my first question is what all the buttons on the weather radar panel of PMDG 777 are for. (photo can be found in the link below) https://ctrlv.cz/fg4G And my second question is whether the f/o or capt tilt & gain knobs have priority over each other. Any answers are highly appreciated!...
