Re: Updated: American Airlines Business & Finance Discussion

I am not saying a AA/AS/B6 will never happen. In terms of network, it makes some sense, especially with AS because AA could have a hub in the North West of the US. But as ShinyAndChrome mentioned earlier, mergers require a lot of money. As long as the coronavirus stays, more losses will burden all t...

I am quite impressed by AA' strong competitive spirit. I hope DL will bring an answer to this, despite their financial woes.

Re: DAL Q2 2020 earnings thread

Well, if it makes you feel any better, you can smile as you work to pay your taxes which will go in part to the $2B they lost during their foreign airline investing adventures There needs to be a law preventing any airline receiving bailout funds if it has wasted money investing in overseas airline...

Re: DAL Q2 2020 earnings thread

This may be strange to say this for a company, but i can't help to feel sad that such a great airline, with a long history, falls like this. My heart goes for all the people working in this industry.

Re: KL Takes Into Account Possibility of AFKL Breakup

And AF don't dominate France? And LH don't dominate Germany? My point is that with a possible acquisition of KLM by IAG, there would be too much dominance of a single group in Europe. In the long distance future, as IAG gets bigger and bigger, we might see a near monopoly in the continent. Competit...

Re: KL Takes Into Account Possibility of AFKL Breakup

Some people here seem to wish KLM belongs to IAG. IAG is already huge in 3 countries. In Spain, Iberia dominates by far the market. In the UK, with the bankruptcy of FlyBe, and the near collapse of Virgin Atlantic, BA will dominate even more the market. And I am not even talking about Level and Vue...

Re: Delta plans to emerge a "smaller" carrier

People who say JVs have been a mistake for Delta are just armchair CEOs not realizing they rode the smart strategy to being the most profitable airline in the world. VS/VA shored up two large markets that the airline had been weak with before the merger to something of a seamless experience. Yeah, ...

Re: Delta plans to emerge a "smaller" carrier

People don't really seem to comprehend how bad this is for airlines. We are going into the largest economic slowdown since the great depression (yes, even greater than the 2008 recession). The latest project has it that the economic growth will be -3% for this year worldwide. Our employment rate co...

Re: American Airlines and Philippine Airlines Apply For Codeshare - Oneworld Next?

AA and PAL were probably in talks before the coronavirus hit hard all the airlines. In the current situation, AA, like most airlines, is in a difficult situation. It is hard for me to see that it will have the means to make a MNL-SEA flight in the foreseeable future.

Re: Is there any possibility of an AF-KLM breakup?

I am an Air France (and ST) loyalist, so my opinion will be biased lol, but I don't think it will be in the interest of both parties to break up. CDG and AMS are major hubs in Europe, and I think they complement each other quite well.

Re: Coronavirus Aviation Related News & Discussion Thread - March 2020 - Part II

All airlines are affected, but delta and united currently are hit the hardest. Aa is next in line. All the lccs and especially ulccs suffer the least up until now because they have lower fixed cost and are not as dependent on the Europe and corporate revenue. But as things get more severe domestica...

Re: Speculation: American Airlines might file bankruptcy again

AA is obviously a very large company that can sustain the current losses, it can weather the storm... for now. But in the long run, I wouldn't rule out any possibility, as the current crisis has some huge impacts in the airline industry right now. DL and UA are in the same boat of course, but I unde...

Re: Will Korean Air Be Shutting Down?

AA's got far bigger worries right now than jabbing back at DL... AA's debt is the highest of any of the US3. exactly, AA's goal at this point is to avoid chapter 11. Yes, and I’m sure that’s exactly why they’re launching SEA-BLR. Sarcasm aside, I think someone (not necessarily AA) will jump at the ...

Re: Delta Announces SEA-LHR For 2021

Together with SEA-DFW, this screams desperation by DL. Looks like DL planning is having sleepless nights and weekends - I wouldn’t be surprised if PDX-LHR disappears soon and all eggs go into the SEA basket. Agreed. I'd love to know if DL has made any money at all in SEA. They thought they could co...

Re: AS to join OneWorld / AA to make SEA an Intl gateway

I am a (big) Delta fan, but I must bow to this big strategic move by AS and AA. This commands respect. I must say that I have started worrying for Delta in Seattle and Portland over the past days. I obviously don't have any data to support my reasoning but I will give my two :twocents: (please take ...

Re: Why Is DL More Profitable Than UA and AA?

In my opinion, Delta seems in general to have a better brand image than United and American Airlines, due to their very good operations (on-time performance, for example), their corporate culture (Delta people), their initiatives (being carbon neutral, keeping the PTVs), etc. More people are certain...
