Re: Delta transitions BOS to Hub status, names SJC, BNA, and AUS as new focus cities

I was at the new Austin SkyClub this morning and one of the women who works there told me that DL is launching AUS-AMS this year, as well as "more direct flights" (none specified) when and if they are able to get full access to the new gates that they currently share with AS/BA/LH/NK etc e...

Re: Delta transitions BOS to Hub status, names SJC, BNA, and AUS as new focus cities

I've also noticed that DL is starting to offer connections through BNA on their website. Doesn't really mean much (they've connected between hubs at MCI for years) but noticed this seemed new since the announcement

Noticed a SwiftAir charter at SYR yesterday when I flew in. What is there in Syracuse for such a thing?

Re: Did DL's order for the A-220 signal the end of the 717?

It's a shame 717 wasn't developed further, really. It was (and still is) better short-hauler than 737-600 and 737-700. I've read somewhere (AirInternational monthly magazine, most likely) that AirTran wanted more 717-200s and was willing to even commit to 717-300 as long as Boeing would find anothe...

Re: Best hub of the US3

DTW McNamara terminal is my #1. I also like CLT on AA, MSP and ATL on Delta.

EWR is a real pain to connect through on UA.

Also while not the US3 (and not technically a hub), the jetBlue Terminal (T5) at JFK is one of the best airport experiences I've had.

Re: Austin Texas Thread - 2018

Here is the thing... all of DLs “Hubs” also offer numerous flights to other (mostly smaller) airports that are not served by any other DL hub. That is basically the main difference between a hub and a focus city. Almost any destination served by RDU, CVG, BOS can also be reached from at least two o...

Re: Austin Texas Thread - 2018

I'm quite shocked that jetBlue never built up AUS. It's such a jetBlue city. Missed opportunity on their part. I could maybe see them adding a couple routes to the Northeast or something, but they already pulled their SFO route a couple years ago due to competition. I don't see routes that would mak...

I could see WN offering nonstop ALB-AUS/DAL/HOU at some point but DL won't have Upstate-TX anytime soon

I saw the BA 744 at AUS on Monday. Couldn't get a pic because I came in at the other end of the airport and there were construction cranes in the way. Weird to see a 747 in Austin though!

On April 24, an IB A330, DY 787, and a BA 747 might all be on the ground at the same time. Not news, but exciting!

What is the IB A330 doing there?

Re: Austin Texas Thread - 2018

Of course, it could make an interesting DL P2P route, although it may drive traffic away from the forthcoming CVG service. WN seems like the best candidate here. Anyone know any other unserved markets from AUS without a nonstop similar to CLE?

Re: Austin Texas Thread - 2018

I think Austin actually has a shot at HQ2, in the same way that I think Raleigh-Durham has a shot at HQ2. Overall though, I don't think either will take it. Atlanta, Toronto, etc are still appealing, yet fit more of the criteria. Dallas-Fort Worth is not the type of city that Amazon is looking for. ...

Re: Austin Texas Thread - 2018

And that's the question really, is if a carrier decides to do a hub or if we are simply expecting an increasing number of new carrier additions along with current carrier route additions? How much of an additional expansion are they considering once this one is complete and how the new timeline wil...

Re: Austin Texas Thread - 2018

So if DL puts a focus city in AUS, what are some non-hub/focus city p2p routes that DL could serve from AUS? I'm no expert, but: IND, PDX, SJC, MCO, MCI, BNA, MEM, DCA, CMH, TPA, RSW make sense to me. SFO too, but might have too much competition, though AUS-Silicon Valley is in high demand. If they...

MIA-TPA: 1hr by flight, almost 4 by driving (operated by AA)
IAH-MSY: 1hr by flight, over 5 by driving (operated by UA and NK+ WN from Hobby)
JAX-ATL: 1hr by flight, almost 5 by driving (operated by DL and WN)
DTW-GRB: 1 hr+20 mins by flight, 7 by driving (operated by DL)

Re: Austin Texas Thread - 2018

I guess we'll have to wait and see. Focus city makes a lot of sense for DL here. Austin is a way better choice than SAT. SAT is a large city, but doesn't have the draw of Austin. As we've discussed, DFW/IAH are already taken, Texas is a hole in the network, etc. Makes perfect sense to me. If they an...
