So, from a pilot perspective: Are landing lights designed to help others see an approaching aircraft better or to see ahead once on the ground (I can't imagine they help illuminate much in the sky).

Of late, when approaching the first TSA officer at a USA checkpoint for a domestic flight, all they've been asking for is a photo ID. What do they see when they look at their screen. My bonafides as a passenger? My travel history? What I ordered for dinner? Just what do they see?

One thing about the USA vs. the UK and the rest of Europe: the public transit is terrible unless you're in the country's 10 biggest cities. If you're landing in MLB to head to the theme parks, you're in for trouble unless you have a car waiting for you. Plus, that airport barely has domestic service...

This will probably get me banned or disappeared, but griping about the free snacks (then taking two of everything), the quality of the bubbly and then playing the "Europe does it Better'' card whilst traveling in first class for $250 on a US airline isn't the best look, if I'm being honest.

Last few flights I took, TSA just wanted to see ID, not boarding pass (paper or digital). Though Im guessing they probably can access data on pretty much whatever they want.

Why do we "check in?"

Whether we do it in person at the airport, at home on our phones or via an in-airport kiosk, you can't fly until you check in. But why? What mechanisms are set in motion when we "check in"? Or, put another way, what happens if we don't?

So, by the same logic, the gate agents should only be paid when a plane parks at the gate and opens the door. Once that door closes again, they're off the clock until the next plane arrives at the gate. (How does this kind of thing even get started. Sounds like some kind of hold over from the 1920s.)

Friends, family and the occasionally misguided person who comes to an airport for overpriced dining, drinks and shopping opportunities can't possibly put a dent in overall throughput of TSA stations. Why is this such a big deal to simply make happen?
