Is there an issue with OQC? If it hadn’t flown in almost 3 years then it would have made more sense to keep it in VCV. AUH is a humid coastal environment, which is not particularly well suited for aircraft storage. Wasn't OQC the problem child of the fleet? Perhaps they've been busy doing maintenan...

VH-EBA that had an emergency landing last week due to an engine issue has ferried from PER-SYD and then on to MNL presumably for maintenance.

OQL is due to go for refurb this month. Doesn’t look like it is scheduled to operate any more passenger services unless anything changes last minute. OQL is still flying around in its old config. Due to operate to MEL as QF94 later today. Then back to LAX tomorrow.

The same crew and aircraft will continue on to LHR once crew have rested, and they won’t need to position the aircraft back to SYD, it will operate QF2 from LHR.

The 6 B744 were always being retired at end of 2020 and replaced by the remaining B789 deliveries on order (3).

Therefore the net COVID change is -2 A388 and -2 A332 and temporarily -3 B789.

Which of the QF A380’s are now retired? Qantas announced that 2 will not be returning. OQE is likely as no refurb or repaint, but all the rest have been either refurbed, repainted or both.

If VA collapses, QF would need to pick up the Domestic capacity. Maybe not 1 for 1 given some time will be required for capacity requirements to rebuild to pre Covid levels. However given QF are also suffering from Covid, would they be financially able to buy more aircraft?

We could see all 5 remaining B744 retired early. It’s unlikely the demand will recover enough for them to be required before their planned retirement at end of this year.
With 3 more 789 to join this year, can’t see a need to keep the 744’s now.
