Appears that VH-OQB is out of service in LAX (not flown for four days) taking QF down to five active A380s.
Is there an issue with OQC? If it hadn’t flown in almost 3 years then it would have made more sense to keep it in VCV. AUH is a humid coastal environment, which is not particularly well suited for aircraft storage. Wasn't OQC the problem child of the fleet? Perhaps they've been busy doing maintenan...

Clearly have a bit of slack in the fleet to be able to have 3 A380s in or heading to AUH

VH-EBA that had an emergency landing last week due to an engine issue has ferried from PER-SYD and then on to MNL presumably for maintenance.

OQL is still flying in the old configuration , must be due for a reconfiguration.
Is this when HKG reverts back to A330? If so, would allow them to send an A380 to AUH for maintenance

As F is now zeroed out on QF93 on many days, I wonder if they’re in process of removing the A380 from the schedule and re-instating a 789. Maybe the A380’s in storage aren’t going to be back in time? I still wouldn’t be surprised to see either OQA or OQC or both retired. They seem surplus to requir...

I'm not sure if one freed up B789 would be enough to start services to ORD, however.
Cheers.

What happens if there are winds that would normally result in east-west single runway ops?

MEL & BNE flights returning to Narita also mean that the A380 can be used on those routes if even more capacity is needed, especially in the next few years with the PS flights meaning not as many A380's might be needed to service LAX & SIN. A return to KIX can't be too far off either I'd th...

My guess for the 10 A380s: (All daily) SYD-SIN-LHR SYD-LAX MEL-LAX SYD-HKG (Will free up existing A330, route was 2x daily pre covid) MEL-SIN (Will free up A330) That uses around 9 aircraft Maybe QF81/82 could go A380 instead of HKG. The 6 B744 were always being retired at end of 2020 and replaced by the remaining B789 deliveries on order (3).
Therefore the net COVID change is -2 A388 and -2 A332 and temporarily -3 B789.
Which of the QF A380’s are now retired? Qantas announced that 2 will not be returning. OQE is likely as no refurb or repaint, but all the rest have been either refurbed, repainted or both.
