https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/boeing_two_deadly_crashes. An new in depth piece from the BBC. I thought that was an excellent read and , pardon the pun, pitched just right at the technical for the general layman who is not interested as much as people on here. Not too technical but gav...

If you look back at the Lion Air thread we have come a long way from examining the weather and the quality of the airline. Might be good to read it again with the benefit of hindsight

Interesting spin German tabloid BILD is giving the inferno - its headline is "Did Business Class Passengers Hamper Evacuation?", insinuating that because of the business class section in the front of the cabin the collection of carry-on luggage by passengers there delayed the escape of ec...

No matter what we say on here the crash investigation should show the full picture. Just have to give it time.

This is a classic example of snippets of news to feed the feeding frenzy,

Re: Updated: Aeroflot 1492 SSJ100 fire at Moscow (SVO) - 40+ confirmed dead

The rear fuselage was burned through around the 0:40 mark, the last 3 persons to evacuate all wear dark clothing, that look like crew uniforms, probably the FA and the pilots after checking for any remaining passengers in the accessible area. Imho anybody sitting behind the engines had no chance at...

Re: Boeing 737MAX Grounded Worldwide Q2 2019

A couple of points. 1. To me it is still odd that Boeing introduced an automatic system to help the pilots control the changes in the newest version of the plane whilst saying the pilots need to be able to manually control the automatic help system sometimes, ie turn it off in effect. That just show...

Has competition between manufacturers pushed the envelope too far?

Pushing the envelope has been the backbone of flight for 200 years, since ballooning days.

However, has competition between civil aircraft manufacturers and engine suppliers pushed the envelope too far in regards to getting from A to B for passengers?

Taking a step back in time ... It's interesting that Trump announced a grounding of Max planes in the USA/globally. Now love him or hate him, put that aside.... How did that fit in with what the FAA and Boeing were doing at that time and where did this decision from Trump come from? I guess he was a...

Re: B737MAX Grounded Worldwide

The issue here is that that this is supposed to be an automated system to help pilots in a certain flight envelope, ie actually stalling, but here it seems it can be triggered when the plane is not actually stalling. So it seems the testing didn't take into account enough parameters. If that is the ...

Re: Is it time for Cockpit Video to aid in crash investigation?

I'm surprised people claim CVR and FDR can give as much information as video would, it's obviously not the case. On a CVR when the command is given to do action X on he controls, then it says "Sound of Control X being activated" it does not tell you actually who did it. You have to assume....

I cannot believe some of the posts I have read trying to make excuses for the fact that authorities and airlines have chosen to ground their MAX fleets. I take exception to this post because it shows an ingrained bias anchored in the past. Africa, traditionally, has a poor aviation record due to the following 1. Extreme weather. 2. Poorer air training for pilots comparatively. 3. Non modern aircraft, often 2nd hand. 4. Maintenance less effective, m...

Although the recent JT610 crash is making everyone immediately think another MCAS, don’t forget the region. The autopilot wouldn't keep speed and altitude if it wasn't receiving reliable airspeed data. Which is why the first line of an unreliable airspeed procedure is "disconnect AP". The 737NG QRH has this Airspeed Unreliable Condition: The pitch attitude is not consistent with the phase of fl...
