KL/AF have a comparable concept. Just checked out the infamous site and my understanding is that "some" long haul flights operate under the pieces system and others under the weight system...surprise, surprise..flights to North America, Santo Domingo, Cuba and Brazil operate under the "pieces" syste...

Why do you keep going to IATA? I just showed some comparisons of what seem to be the differences between some carriers and their baggage allowance, which is what is being talked about. Also, some of the charges you are talking about might be per kg, so check again as airlines have different ways of ...
