My guess is that they got some money from the government to operate charter flights to repatriate stranded Poles around the world. Actually, why are they being retired? Surely it would be cheaper to operate these a bit longer while the max is grounded, rather than wet-leasing planes all the time?

Last summer it was the LH978/979 rotation on Wednesday, not sure if it has changed for this summer.

I'd say LO has a lot of problems due to the grounding (5 grounded and few more not delivered). And being rather small player it's a large chunk of fleet not flying or subbed by ragtag leases - reliability is not there, it only takes one cancelled flight and close to two hundred people are swearing ...
