Re: British Airways News and Discussion - 2024

BA is switching its LHR-ISB flights to LGW this winter, to be operated 3 times per week. Does this measure out growth for their LGW base? Will they be gaining an extra B777 or will there be something being cut/reduced to facilitate ISB moving to LGW. I don't think so just yet. LGW-BGI isn't coming ...

Re: WN147 nearly hits LGA tower

In the US, coupled approach NA means it must be hand flown, no distinction on number of autopilots coupled. The actual wording is: “Autopilot coupled approach NA” Would you not opt for the Rnav/GPS approach instead then? If weather was above Rnav minima (which I believe it was) then surely that all...

It is completely ridiculous to claim that any of the pre-war airlines have any meaningful connection to BOAC and BEA, let alone to BA which was a new corporate entity created in the 1970s. Why is Speedbird BA's callsign? From the BOAC Speedbird logo. I believe it was BOAC's callsign for that reason...

Runway 4 is a non coupled approach, they probably got a bit behind the jet hand flying in that crappy weather and executed a go around. The tower is 233’ tall, so they only cleared it by 3 times its height. Overflying a tower isn’t something that’s unheard of, hell I’ve taken off ferrying empty an ...

Pretty well handled and standard ops given the circumstances. The low oil quantity QRH checklist on the 777 directs an engine shutdown and land at nearest suitable airport. Vectors for the dumping is fine, sometimes it's easier to just arrange and program a hold so the N and ANC is taken care of. We...

It doesn’t particularly have an advantage : technically speaking the 779 would be more different from a fleet integration perspective than the 787 and A350. The 777X is a big step up in capacity, and despite LHR's capacity constraints, it's not always wise to have such drastic increases.
