Re: MC-21 Development Thread

The SaM146 was manufactured by Safran Aircraft Engines of CFM fame, and was developed from the CFM56. There are some Russian components, but the engine is western designed and built. Unfortunately, the aftermarket support for the engine was severely lacking, they should have gone with a CF34 or sim...

Re: MC-21 Development Thread

I'm very interested in how they can offer both a Russian engine and modern engine in the same air frame. How much commonality is there that can be used on the basic air frame/systems and how much is different? Also what would the PD14 be compared to as far as how old the design is? Also I assume th...

Re: How is UA doing on SFO-YYZ?

I believe a large reason why Air Canada deploys wide-bodies on the route is the MAX grounding, they're low on capacity right now. AC regularly deployed widebodies on the YYZ-SFO and YYZ-LAX routes (among multiple other transborder routes) long before the MAX grounding happened. Yes, but they had do...

Re: US-Venezuela Flight Status?

I'm actually booked to fly on Friday CCS MIA with AA. Worried sick. However, the acting president, Juan Guaido, sent out a letter to all the embassies in Venezuela asking them not to leave. If the Trump administration officially recognizes Guaido as the official President of Venezuela, then Maduro'...

Re: Can IAD cut it for a UA SE Hub?

Sorry, but Burke is much closer. The Giant at 8970 Burke Lake Rd., near where an airport entrance would be, to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW via I-395 is 16.7 miles. 1600 PA Ave to IAD's terminal is 27 miles. Sorry, Cledaybuck, but no, the mistake was NOT not closing DCA. If IAD had been built closer, y...

Re: Report: Interjet to sell its SSJ100 to focus on its A320 fleet

Milenio is a legitimate source, but this article is in the opinion section of the newspaper. I'm not sure if this is news, or just the author's opinion on what Interjet should do.

“This is not a private jet for the ultra-wealthy.” Um, yes it is, only the ludicrously wealthy can afford 4,000 GBP (US$5,214) plane tickets... What company pays for business class tickets anymore? This guy is way out of touch, he's competing with chartered jets, not other commercial airlines. Most...

They're being sold as the E-175SC (special configuration). It increases the size of the premium cabin, but can be easily reconfigured into a regular E-175. Skywest has some in service right now with Delta and they have 12 F, 20 Y+ and 38 Y https://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/traveling-with-us/ai...

Re: Farnborough Air Show 2018 - Other Manufacturers/Engine Order Thread

I'm surprised another carrier from the Americas is thinking of taking the SSJ considering how many problems Interjet has had with it. It's a fine airplane, but the aftermarket support is very poor. Letter of intent from Peruvian Airlines for the SSJ100, no idea how many. https://m.facebook.com/story...

Re: United Airlines announces order for 25 E-175 and 4 787-9's

Those numbers are pre-E-175 fuel burn improvement package. E-175 fuel burn has increased by 6.4% since those figures https://www.embraercommercialaviation.com/news/first-production-e175-fuel-burn-improvements/ Also, the CRJ-700 is a smaller airplane than the E-175, AA puts 76 seats on an E-175 vs 64...

Re: United Airlines announces order for 25 E-175 and 4 787-9's

E175-E2 isn't in scope for any US carrier, it's overweight. Interesting. From my understanding of the scope clause, UA will only be able to put 70 seats on those E175s if it wants UAX to fly them. This should be similar to DL's recent order of CRJ-900s, which are also only getting 70 seats to replac...

Flights to Hawaii perhaps? We all know Southwest is working on it, but it would be hilarious if Spirit beat them to it and announced Hawaii first. The A320NEO should be able to make it without problems. I doubt it, especially after the fiasco G4 went through. Can a C Series work with a ULCC like Sp...

Re: AA near Deal with Bombardier for new planes

I wonder who are these planes going to go to? PSA is having a hard time putting pilots in seats right now, and Envoy has been trying to get rid of their CRJs for years. My guess is PSA will dump a significant portion of its CRJ-200 fleet and replace them with the 15 CRJ-900s. If they're having a ha...

I always wanted to be a pilot until I saw the wages paid by regional airlines. Granted they're getting better now, but I'm probably a bit too old to get started and reach 1,500 hours. If they drop the requirement I could actually see myself trying to go for an ATP.

There aren't any next-gen regional jets that fall within current scope clauses, even the E-175 E2 is overweight. Embraer will keep having to make E1s into the near future.
