I remember it flew to Hickory, NC which I thought was incredibly short. According to Google Maps, it takes 54 minutes to drive from Charlotte Douglas airport to downtown Hickory. It takes longer to get to Dulles from downtown DC (even when the silver line opens soon) then it does to drive to from CL...Jump to post
Woah, lots of grumpy folks!
It’s interesting news, covid or not. And there’s discussion that can be had (will DFW move up the ranks in busiest, etc.)
If it doesn’t interest you, don’t post.
I know everywhere is sucking big time right now and I'm sure other cities/airports had awesome things going on but I'm just so frustrated that all the progress IAD was making has been tarnished by Covid. The Silver Line is opening sometime soon, investments from United and expansion, lots of new int...Jump to post
I hated the Continental colors on United. The entire duration, it was always Continental to me. I even accidentally referred to it as Continental a few times. At first, i was disappointed with the new livery (No tulip.) But it's grown on my so much since it has been first introduced, I really like i...Jump to post
Who is being told not to travel domestically and by whom? You have probably already heard about Amazon telling its employees not to travel domestically. I think you will find this is happening across many companies in North America. Where if you have not booked, you are told not to book any trips u...Jump to post
So how accurate is the list?
As already corrected, IAD was already way off but all the revisions have me questioning the integrity of the data.
Does anybody know the latest schedule for when National Hall will no longer be accessible, pre-security? I am one of the few people who go to DCA just to hang out, pre-security, in that space. It's good for plane-watching with kids, especially if the weather makes Gravelly point unpleasant. I’ve be...Jump to post
This column does bring back memories of many more cities that were once hubs: AA at BNA, RDU, and SJC DL at CVG and MEM (MEM previously NW and even RC-Republic before that). PDX was a small hub with flights across the Pacific. NW had a mini-hub at BIL TW at MCI. Also had small hubs at ABQ and PIT a...Jump to post
I live downtown DC and I use all 3 for leisure. I think bwi is faster to get to than iad in mass transit so it’s more convenient and faster imo. Bwi is usually cheaper. Though I’m generally willing to pay a premium every now and then for dca. But I fly nearly every other weekend to see family. Those...Jump to post
There is such a difference in every way between Delta and AA/United. I will gladly pay a premium to fly Delta and even take an inferior schedule or routing. From the product to the employees. I love Delta. Much rather have a longer layover or flight on Delta and pay a premium than stuck in misery on...Jump to post
Will IAD end up being a shorter or longer train trip from downtown DC than BWI? Maybe the same but. The MARC/Amtrak has garbage frequencies. Especially weekends. The silver line will be a very welcome addition. I work in Tyson’s and most of our people prefer to Just go out of IAD. There are, what, ...Jump to post
Maybe they should advocate for more competition. It shouldn’t cost $500+ to fly between IAD/DCA to CLT, for example. Luckily Spirit at least offers BWI to CLT cheap, otherwise BWI-CLT too is expensive for it to be worth - to me - to go down for the weekend or whatever. I can literally find legit far...Jump to post
Cheaper prices, more competition will drive more traffic. It’s easily $1600 to Brazil from the US. Europe on the other hand is so common to see flights below $700. I easily fly round trip to Europe for around $500 from the each coast. I loveeeee Brazil. But the cost for 2 people is a little too much...Jump to post
You can’t prevent thunderstorms or natural events, etc. it happens whether you like it or not.
There doesn’t have to be a flyover. Trump deciding he wants a flyover is a choice. A severe thunderstorm is not a choice.
Anyway. Looks like there are thunderstorms for DC that day anyway.
I like the tail a lot. But body of the aircraft I like less and less as time goes on. It’s so close to being a great livery. I think it’s the grey belly that I don’t care for.Jump to post
So much better. Can’t wait to see Dulles filled with these.Jump to post
They should’ve done this from the start. And it looks nice. Finally I’ll be able to look at a plane and think “United” instead of “Continental”Jump to post
That United video is giving some US Airways Swoosh vibes.
Can’t wait to see some United 757’s Banking into DCA. Their current colors are so drab
As a Charlottean, I welcome the alternatives and competition. Hopefully this will lead tolower fares at some point. I believe this is the longest non-AA domestic route from Charlotte and first non-AA transcon? Nice to see the hometown get more low fares and hopefully more to come as A expands. A fe...Jump to post
That’s sad. I used WOW before from BWI to CDG. Heard lots of American families who are so nkt aviation experts saying how they always took WOW and they were pros at the WOW process (connecting through Iceland, etc.) They were nice and it’s sad for the nice employees. I will say though, some of the c...Jump to post
Looks like another big year for IAD internationally. UA starts TLV, TAP starts LIS, AZ starts FCO and now MS starts CAI. I do have doubts that all these flights are sustainable in the long term, but hope they all succeed. I hope they all succeed. TAP had some super low fares. I scoree a couple 1 wa...Jump to post
DFW and CLT are becoming HUGE. 1500 daily departures combined. Actually 1600, the summer plan is DFW 900, CLT 700. i think that's about a 10% increase each. Very bold, especially since the operation last year was not great. I’m so glad armchair CEO’s on here have dropped the “Charlotte’s going to b...Jump to post
I’m sure it’s been discussed plenty, but United does have a Southern Hub.... Dulles. Technically, maybe, since IAD and DCA are south of the Mason-Dixon line. How does UA at IAD compare to DL at ATL (#1) or AA at CLT (#10)? IAD is #25 nationwide, of which most traffic is international. IAD is irrele...Jump to post
I’m sure it’s been discussed plenty, but United does have a Southern Hub.... Dulles.
Why isn’t United bigger at Dulles? NoVa has plenty of Fortune 500’s and a business community where it’s comvenient. Lots of O&D.
Are the fees at IAD just that high?
This thread is funny for several reasons. First, the liberal use of “mega” hubs. Atlanta (Delta near 1000 daily flights) and DFW (AA soon to be 900 plus daily flights) are the only true single airline mega hubs. Chicago and Denver are mega hubs with multiple airline hubs. To call CLT a megahub is l...Jump to post
