Re: Updated: Bulgarian president vetoes F-16V purchase

Bulgaria finally made the right choice and didn't fall into the Gripen C/D trap. Just a small detail: F-16V is a modernization package. This is what Greece is going to get for their existing block. 52. The newly build Vipers for Bulgaria and Slovakia are designated F-16 block 70.

I know it's a political decision, they even sack their Ari Force chief over F-35. But choosing 4 gen airframe, over 5 gen, considering the price is practically the same is beyond me.

And apparently aren't getting much technology transfer with the S-400 deal either. However will end up with a better product and for a better price. I wouldn't put my money on S-400 as "a better product". Especially PAC-3 is huge development program and the whole system is wildly exported...

Re: USAF Considering New Build F-15X

Buying F-15EX is just plain stupid. Buying a huge flying AESA radar, that can rack some 22 AA missiles and work in network with F-35 is not stupid. Maybe not the optimal solution, but not stupid. And not only USAF and the Israeli think it's not stupid. USN also have tactical schemas that use togeth...

Re: Germany proposes joint European aircraft carrier

Another point is, that based on the long US experience, carriers create a very capable aviators. An elite of carefully selected and well trained pilots, that show remarkable results during military operations.

Re: Germany proposes joint European aircraft carrier

And unless I’m missing something does nothing to advance German defense needs. The humongous EU economy, should be able to project power and to enforce fair game. China doesn't build this huge fleet to attack someone, or to defend against someone specific. It builds it to protect their economic gro...

Re: The U.S. has threatened to expel Turkey from the F-35

Russia will never sell the SU-57 to a Nato member... They will. A few days ago they even set the parameters for export deals . The projects both for the airframe, and the new engine are in deep stall. And apart from the technical impediments, Russia is already spending one third of it's budget for ...

It looks to me like "suicide by cop". The extremely long winter probably depressed the poor groundhog. Which is ironical tho, because the long winter is his fault.

One of the perished pilots were surprisingly young - born 1993. Probably fresh from the flying school/technical college. Keep in mind that in Russia, kids start school at age 7-8.

Re: India calls quits to 5th-gen FGFA collaboration with Russia after 11 years

Lets not forget, that India needs weapon platform, not 5th generation airshow group. And Su-57 is a weapon platform with not that many modern weapons. No perspective air-to-air missiles, excepts R-77 that's struggling to get in full production from 15+ years, and it's not match for Meteor. No cheep ...

Re: Was the ramming tactic chosen in 9/11 the correct one?

Fighter jets are generally more robust than airliners. They could have tried to cut through 757 wingtip, or vertical stabilizer with their wings. Gol Transportes Aéreos Flight 1907 comes to mind, where Embraer cut off 737's wing with its winglet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gol_Transportes_Aéreos_...

Re: Russian Military Crashes

What's the point of trying to save fighter over the sea? Because of the high salinity of Mediterranean, it will be beyond repair, even if later recovered from the water. Besides, SU-30SE can continue accelerate even if one if his AL-31 is off - they have more than enough power for this.
