I live in SoCal and I very much am familiar. Then you should know that an hour and change flight even with security is not the same as a 8 plus hours. Those are not competitive. Taking the train is a much smoother experience and is much more environmentally friendly. I like planes as much as you do...

There's a growing wine scene on the Central Coast/Paso Robles that is less posh and expensive than Napa. Mostly California based tourism which may help the San Diego route.

I agree 100%. Why don't they do this? Alaska sent delayed flights to LAX and bussed often when I worked at SNA years ago. I assume it still happens. Passengers did not think “what a stupid rule”. Airlines should strictly follow the laws and for any late flights be sure to let the Passengers know they are diverting to BUR and busing them in because the city will not let them land 10 minutes past curfew. Delta and now Spirit have added California-Vegas recently. I don’t think AS will anytime soon. Maybe down the road if they solidify a base, but these would be vanity routes that likely wouldn’t make money. Imho i think it's easy to figure out where it's going by concentrating on the NYC, slc, sea routes that have jumbo RJs on them. Look at west coast routes with 717s. Start and stay there.
