Re: Hong Kong airport disruptions due protest

The more I read about what's going on in Hong Kong, I'm just wondering how the political aspects would affect aviation.... I wouldn't be surprised by airlines reducing its frequencies as well as turning away its fifth freedom services. Any thoughts?

Re: JAL and ANA’s presence in South Korea

Another factor that you need to consider is that the perception of international travelling has changed in Korea. Up until the late 1980s, South Korea restricted its citizens from travelling outside the country unless you had a purpose (mostly business, education, etc.). I remember my parents tellin...

Asiana starting ICN-ULN starting 7/9/2019

I was checking my OZ mileage status on their website, and I noticed on the front page of their Korean website that they are starting a new service to Ulaanbaatar. The link is in Korean, but it's basically saying that they are having an event in celebration of starting ICN-ULN on 7/9/2019. https://fl...

Re: Asiana's Seoul-Chicago suspension

I fly on OZ often, and given that Asiana is going through some management haul at the moment, my personal theory is that the board decided to cut some of the long-distance routes that bring fewer profits than others. When I flew on ORD-ICN route on OZ, it was usually 80-90% full. Not to mention Chic...

Quite an exciting news!
I think it's a smart game for TP to join. Good way to collect some travellers from both Europe and West coast, in my opinion.
Hope it does go well though!

Re: United Airlines CEO to Make Historic Route Announcement Tomorrow (12/12)

I’m raising my eyebrow at the second SFO-ICN.
I think ever since SQ left, it’s their move to fill in the niche (KE did the same thing), but I personally thought ORD-ICN woul’ve been a smarter move.
It’s been a long-needed flight for UA, in my opinion.

Re: Could TG relaunch BKK-LAX and BKK-JFK?

Like others said, I don't think nonstop flights would happen anytime soon due to competitions. There are other non-Thai carriers (especially Chinese and Koreans) who are willing to offer cheaper flights. From what I read on articles and on this page, TG is trying to relaunch US flights for their &qu...

Can Anchorage become a low-cost transit hub between Asia and North America?

I know what you might be thinking - ANC was a transit hub during the Soviet era for Asian and European carriers. I was thinking if it's possible for a new low-cost airline or even Alaska Airlines (even though AS focuses on the mainland services) to establish a transit hub for passengers traveling be...

Re: Singapore Changi Airport wants a new non-stop flight route to Vancouver

Given the history of some sour relationship between AC and SQ, I think YVR-SIN is a bit of a tricky route for either airline. I'm sure AC has contemplated on starting the nonstop route, and I bet my money that AC would be the first one to start. I remember SQ had to drop its YYZ service in the past ...

Re: Will DL return to HKG again?

I don't think they should cut HKG completely. They did HKG-NRT-HKG for many years though. Why not try HKG-ICN-HKG? It would be possible in a world where the low-cost airlines don't exist. ICN-HKG became oversaturated. Why do you think TG is leaving that route after serving for over 20 years? ET dro...

A little off-topic (since everyone is talking about Europe), but I'm wondering if UA is contemplating on ORD-ICN anytime soon.

Re: Profitability of GMP-CJU route

One other thing to add about GMP-CJU: There are not exactly a ton of alternatives outside of flying between the two. Unless you want another Sewol disaster. ....you are aware that tons of low-cost carriers fly between GMP and CJU too, right? Jeju Air, T'way, Eastar Jet, Jin Air (a subsidiary of KE)...

Re: KE's new branding campaign - 'Go Korean'

As much as I despise Korean Air and boycotting it after the Nut Rage incident and their abuse of power by the owner family, I think they are really trying to outshine Asiana especially now. OZ recently had some serious hits after the "No Meal" incident as well as their own version of abuse...

Re: DL fires Korean speaking gate agents?..

Although the article is talking about the Korean-Americans, I've actually been surprised by how lenient Korean agents in Korea (ICN and GMP) are so lenient about the airline policies. I go to Korea a lot to visit family, and whenever I fly back on United, I've never met a single agent who pinpointed...

Re: Which Airports are at Full or almost Full Capacity?

I personally think CJU is probably the densest airport in the world. Small terminal with hundreds of flights coming and going each hour, it's really packed to the gills. The government is even considering building a second airport in the island to split the air traffic. https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/...

Re: Chances of SQ starting another 5th freedom route from ICN?

Reroute SIN-IAH to stop in ICN instead of via MAN, makes much more sense distance-wise. Only in a world in which SQ and UA do codeshares. I actually think IAH has some hope as long as UA could provide reasonable connections, especially since the demand for South American travels is growing among Ko...

Re: Air China IAH operation

Can't say for IAH - PTY route, but I've been on PEK - YUL - HAV route. The PEK - YUL was packed to the gills (the passengers seem to be a good mix of 50-50 of Canadians and Chinese). When we continued to Havana (as well as back to Montreal), there were lots of empty seats - about 15-20% load?

Re: Chances of SQ starting another 5th freedom route from ICN?

As they're replacing SQ8/7 with SQ612/1 with exact departure time from SIN (0245) and exact equipment (77W) I doubt this would happen anytime soon; and SQ612/1 is a typical Japan/Korea regional turnaround flight number. Of course, we never know if they're planning to do another change shortly after...

Chances of SQ starting another 5th freedom route from ICN?

Since I have always flown on SQ 15/16 on SFO-ICN and SQ 7/8 on LAX-ICN all my life since I was a little boy to visit family in Korea (I have also flown on SQ 17/18 several times on YVR-ICN/SEL), SQ's cancellation on LAX-ICN-SIN to start nonstop flights has been a big shock for me personally. I compl...
