Re: Could the Southampton Airport runway extension mean the end of Bournemouth Airport?

I think the runway extension at Southampton would make it more attractive for Easyjet especially. I also imagine it lifts most restrictions for ERJs with BA Cityflyers shifting the summer schedule there. Interestingly Bournemouth was expanded over Southampton decades ago. The plan for Southampton wa...

Wasn't the 757 a two engined 727 replacement with a two man flight deck?

Re: Supply and demand of used Aircraft engines

This may greatly show my ignorance but would it be possible to install a LEAP in place of a CFM56 on an A320 series without changing much else? I appreciate the NEOs have other refinements but is a halfway house possible?

Re: Flybe News and Discussion Thread

I also sometimes wondered if the dash 8 fleet is really the best aircraft or if switching to the ATR42/72 would be more profitable for them due to lower fuel costs. I doubt the speed difference is really realised on most routes.

Re: Flybe News and Discussion Thread

I haven't the time to read all the posts, so excuse me if I'm repeating what's been posted. If you are a big boy like easyJet or Ryanair it makes sense to have multiple hubs, but surely not for FlyBe. Shouldn't they have had a single hub from say, BHX, this would have cut costs by a lot and simplif...

Re: Flybe News and Discussion Thread

Unfortunately they operate a rag bag collection of routes that if they did have a chance of being profitable FR or U2 would be there operating them at a far lower cost than Flybe. I don't completely agree with that statement. Some of Flybe's routes make sense but they are too thin to deploy a 737 o...

Re: Flybe News and Discussion Thread

It would be interesting what would happen at Belfast City and Southampton especially with their comparatively short runways limiting what types can fly in with reasonable payloads.

Re: The math behind twins.

Diesel locomotives work the same way. The diesel motor is not directly connected to the wheels like a truck. The diesel runs a generator which powers the electric track motors to propel the train. I appreciate this is slightly pedantic but that isn't the case for all diesel locomotives. You find bo...

Re: A330Neo - 2019 a great year

From what I have read it sounds like that dropped them in favour of more A350s. I guess on the stage lengths they operate the A350s lighter frame gives fuel burn advantages?

Re: Why is the Air France flight to Cape Town only 2x weekly!?

Just as a side note as a former Dutch colony I would expect KLM to serve South Africa more regularly than AF. Likewise I would expect AF to serve their former African colonies (eg Algeria) more than KLM.

Re: Business Risk for Boeing: The A321XLR

Even today it could have added New MAX engine technology to the 757 giving it lower fuel cost and more range. Well that's probably one of the biggest issues. With what engine would you do that? The 757 is a heavy beast. Not even the A321XLRs engines would be up for the job. The 757 was just overbui...

Re: Emirates to Retire A380s by Mid 2030s

I think that one of the issues for EK is that they factored in a good second-hand value for the aircraft as they rolled them over for newer aircraft. That value is expected to be much lower now that that production is ending, and the A380 isn't a good prospect for conversion to a freighter. Airline...

Re: flybe launch LHR-IOM

What a waste shouldve been given to BA to launch DTW IOM is a favourite withe the banking community and those with enough money to make it worthwhile living offshore, it is a surprise that it doesn't already have a link to LHR. IMO far better to use a slot to enable the residents of the Isle of Man...

That should be a fairly well utilised route for connecting passengers assuming the timing is right. I had assumed IOM already had a LHR connection.

Re: Updated: BE being bought for £2.2m by a consortium including VS, Stobart Group and Cyrus Capital

Just a question. If BA could not make this work with a vast network, what does VS bring to the table to make a difference? I'm not 100% sure BA didn't make it work, but just wanted to concentrate on London. BE already had their own network when they took on BA Connect's non-LCY based flying, so it'...

Re: Updated: VS To Be Largest Shareholder In New Airline Group Comprising BE And RE

Can’t see why anyone would be concerned about SOU given that all the services and BE operations at the airport are said to be profitable in its own right? Surely VS wouldn’t to throw that away. Also Southampton already has a strong Virgin association given the sponsorship of the football team ect. ...

I think if I was in charge of Flybe following acquisition I would probably look to shave these UK airports from the route network. -Liverpool, network is already duplicated out of Manchester which is a much better feeder airport. -Bristol, in favour of Cardiff (already duplication) -East Midlands, i...

Re: How Many A 330 Neo's Will Ultimately be Sold?

I think it is perhaps a question of timing. I think Airbus were a little late to the quad jet retirement where 787 won lots of orders. I think now it is possibly more about waiting for Ceo replacement.

Is that really only GBP 2.2 million? That's like buying a country house or something! I haven't been following, but something must have gone down since their half-year report from 30 September, because that has net assets at 118m and some profitability, albeit in the summer months. Market cap of 35...

Re: Updated: VS To Be Largest Shareholder In New Airline Group Comprising BE And RE

I think this coupled with T2 expansion at MAN could make a good hub. I believe Manchester is already better connected than Heathrow in regards to destination counts in the UK. I would be interested to see what VA do with routes not centred around LHR or MAN. Also I wonder if they will look at fleet ...

You could argue they are ahead of the curve with TXL closing in favour of Brandenburg (when it eventually gets finished!) which is effectively a massively enlarged SXF.
