My wife flew AMS-YHZ on a couple of different carriers.
Jump to postOnly one for me:
YHZ-YQB (had a quick stop in YQM) back in the 90s. Having to change in YUL means that driving is a more attractive option.
Back in High School I wrote a little essay saying that my dream job was to be in the Canadian Senate. Good pay, limited number of actual working days. lifetime appointment to retirement at age 75, get to feel important without doing any work that actually matters... it is the perfect job. My teacher...
Jump to postThat would imply that the future of the MAX is very uncertain at AC at this time. If by June 30, according to their interpretation, the MAX problems have not been resolved, there's a good possibility that the MAX will be dead at AC, and AC will be turning elsewhere. That elsewhere may be the A321 o...

Air Canada maybe. There were two times long ago when I took an AC widebody, but I honestly don't remember the type. The first was in March 1983 flying YYZ-TPA and a return TPA-YYZ. I was pretty young at the time so I don't remember the type, just that it was a widebody. The second was in August 1992...
Jump to postI wonder if it would be worthwhile for Westjet to try to grow YUL in a couple of years, once the Air Canada/Transat merger is done and many flights from YUL skyrocket in price. That might create an environment where Westjet can make some inroads.

Easy peasey.

As you guessed, all are Q400s!
I wonder if this is possible in Canada using mostly regional carriers. We have A LOT of Q400s up here.
Jump to postI'm not to fond of the 727. Three engines at the back just looks ungainly to me. The L1011 and DC-10 looked much better to me, though the way the L1011 tail engine joins in to the fuselage doesn't look wonderful. The Dassault Falcon doesn't look very good to me either, since I'm talking about the tr...
Jump to postSenegal, because it is warm and I'm truly hating Canadian Winter at the moment. Also to see my sister. Shame that YHZ-DSS takes at 16-26 hours to cover 5500 km direct.

So many questions... How is transit to the site? Is it possible to build a high speed rail link between the two airports? What would the target market be; cargo, low cost carriers, or luring Westjet and all of its partners? Would airline fees and Airport improvement fees be substantially less than P...
Jump to postI'm hoping that once the MAX flies again they'll announce YHZ-AMS, along with full codesharing with AF/KLM for flights in Europe. They don't seem to be interested in fully joining Skyteam, but closer ties with the certain Skyteam members would be nice.
Jump to postAny airport that forces exposure to a perfume/cosmetics counter (usually in the forced duty free). Getting my eyes watering and my nose running just before a flight is not appreciated.
Jump to postAny short hop to a small town in Canada where Air Canada flies and Westjet does not will be somewhere in gouging territory. YHZ-YQY used to be crazy.

YYZ doesn't have anywhere near the worst weather, but some might argue that they are the worst at handling it. Maybe because they are operating at capacity most of the time so there is no wiggle room.
Jump to postYHZ-AMS - Westjet. This might happen with a MAX, if they ever fly again. It is the next logical MAX destination if WS decides to expand TATL from YHZ. YHZ-DSS - Anyone? This is the craziest of pipe dreams, but it would be convenient for my family (and probably no one else.) BOS-DSS or YUL-DSS would ...
Jump to postFor me it is all about the consequences and recovery options. If I am connecting on to a once a day long haul flight I will make sure that there is a good long connection time. If I am connecting on to a short hop with flights every hour or two then I don't mind a short connection since I know that ...
Jump to postSome airlines offer it because it gives them a competitive advantage over the airlines that don't. All other things being equal, the option to have a stopover in an interesting place may bring extra ticket sales. edit: They also may have deals with nearby hotels to get a cut of the hotel bill, espec...
Jump to postThe most pathetic breakfast TATL has to be on Air Canada YYZ-CDG. You get a slice of banana bread. That's one of the reasons I detest AC economy class and avoid it on TATL. I'm amazed that it took this long for the nuclear banana bread to come up. Foul. Last time I flew AC TATL the kids meal was a ...

AC was running an A333 on YUL-YHZ-YUL not long ago. Lobster perhaps? Yes, they started that after downsizing the YHZ-LHR to a 737 MAX from a 767. They needed a way to get the Lobster in to the cargo system. It was timed to be an quick turn between A333 YUL TATL crossings. AC will often use their wi...
Jump to postbelly fully of Lobster! That plane is living my dream Not that big of a deal around here (Nova Scotia). Some years you can get lobster at McDonalds. It is available from countless food trucks. Back in the old days the poor kids would have lobster sandwiches at school. The rich kids had bologna.
Jump to postI would normally never risk such a short connection on a short flight followed by a long flight. The consequences of a misconnect are too high. And given that AC has industry lagging OTP, the chances of a misconnect are higher than you'd think. I am more likely to risk it on long flight followed by ...
Jump to postLandside concessions are nice when dropping off teens or nervous flyers. Then one can spend some extra time with them before sending them through security. We did this last May with our daughter at YHZ.
Though I'll admit that situations like that are likely a small and decreasing minority.
The YHZ-KEF flights on Icelandair were timed for a pretty miserable red-eye. 21:30-04:45 with 4h15 flight time.
Of course the MAX issues killed the route.
There are four main hubs where AC and WJ are battling in Canada. In three of them (YYZ, YUL, YVR), AC is the top dog. YYC is the closest fight between the two. Do you really think WestJet is battling for YUL? I think they're perfectly content with YEG being their #4. Westjet has mostly given up on ...
Jump to postI'm hoping for new TATL routes out of YHZ. There were new routes launched with the MAX, but the A220 might make more routes economical.

Jump to postThings might get interesting in YYZ if the Air Canada takeover of Air Transat is approved. There isn't much room at T1 for Transat's operations to join AC there.
AC says that they will run Transat separately so it shouldn't matter, but does anybody believe that will happen long term?
This week I flew in to YYZ on Monday and out of YHM on Wednesday. Toronto and Hamilton aren't the same city, but they are both in the Golden Horseshoe area of Ontario.
Jump to postDepends on the time of year. A short connection in a snow-prone city might turn into a misconnect in December, but wouldn't be an issue in October.
Jump to postSouth Africa was a Dutch then an English colony. That's where the linguistic and tranditional ties are.
Why doesn't KLM fly to Dakar?
It all sounds good until you read the small print. The exceptions for delay compensation include weather and safety, which means no one will every receive a dime.

Jump to postI bet there won't be a lot, if any, A220 flying across the Atlantic. Well, perhaps there are some delivery flights. The most likely will be Atlantic Canada-Europe.
