Re: Southwest Crew Base in Hawaii?

Not a chance! The only people wanting WN to fail in Hawaii probably are employed by Hawaiian Airlines. WN is taking market share from HA, and stepping on HA's toes inter-island has got to hurt! Monopoly no more!

Re: The Southwest effect on Hawaiian travel

No Airline can change the expenses of vacationing IN Hawaii. though to a point? They can make getting there easier. The problem as I see it? Once the initial Blush is Over? Who then is going to be the long term Powerhouse? and it won't BE WN... I agree I don't think WN will be the Powerhouse on Mai...

Re: Updated: Japan allocates Haneda international slots to 9 nations

Exciting!!!! Look forward to some new movements at HND... with ANA moving international to T1 to integrate with domestic, it’ll become a very different international terminal. Terminal -2 Will ANA fly it’s Superjumbo out of HND to HNL instead of NRT? A380 is not authorized at HND. Thanks for the in...

Re: Motley Fool 5.19.2019 - Southwest Inter-Island Service, "doing extraordinarily well."

At this point, unless the planes are going around half empty, Gary Kelly is going to say they are doing great. HI is a long term commitment play by WN. They are not expecting to make money for probably 3 years. And that's a huge problem for HA. Keep in mind, these intra-island routes are not exactl...

How would this idiot know anything? It just started. As anyone with more than 3 brain cells knows. You cant make a statement like that unless you are trying to raise the stock price. Considering the quote about doing extremely well came from Gary Kelly, one would hope/suspect Kelly knows something....

Re: WN announces service to ITO

I've said this before but anyone who thinks that Southwest will be a major threat to HA does not know Hawaii government. I would be extremely surprised if WN got any bigger than the current presence in Hawaii. Give me a break! Money is money, whether it comes from the local airlines or an outsider(...

I assume you mean AS is adding SMF-KOA which is already flying (seasonally I believe); if AS is going to fly SMF-LIH, this is the first I've heard of it. bb Yes, you are 100% right. I just assumed it was LIH due to KOA being such a disaster last summer. For this past summer, AS's best markets in th...

Re: WN and Hawaii.

All I'm saying is the "Southwest" effect is NEVER going to be realized. Tell that to go!, Island Air, Mahalo, Mokulele(E170 op), ATA, Aloha, etc. Fares can already be dirt cheap, and show me where Southwest is still the "low fare airline" - they haven't been since Herb retired. ...

Give me a break! I fly the 737-300 inter-island and there are absolutely NO problems with the engines not getting a "cool down time".

Re: Island Air files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

HA's 717's engines are in the same boat. They are no different than the CFMs. They require a 3 minute cool down period too. The issue is not cool-down after landing, but cool-down after takeoff. Required cool-down after landing varies by how much reverse thrust was used, and can be 1 minute if no r...

Re: Island Air files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

I hate the LCC seats in HA's "new 712" cabin, and began flying WP more. The Q cabin is quieter, and HNL/OGG is just a few minutes longer. Yes! More seats, more crammed inside the cabin, and more expensive flights! No room for carry on's because nobody wants to pay $25 to check your bag in...

Re: Island Air files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Aloha Air Cargo has been operating 737-300's inter-island for the past 3 years. The reason Aloha Airlines got rid of the 300's was because the 300's were newer at the time and the overhaul of the CFM's were over $1M every time vs the JT8D engines on the 737-200's. The FAA had strict requirements on ...
