between 737-9s, 321's, and 340's I think we are getting a shiny new one every week plus 717's, 757's, and some other antiques.

Jump to postI'm sure everyone in the industry is anxious to see the details. I'm hearing an international codeshare concession from the pilots.
[Edited 2015-09-03 15:32:52]
I am hearing the announcement on various "pilot" websites, but nothing official as of yet. The rumor is that after a very long time an agreement principle has been attained and now the SWAPA leadership will decide whether to accept it for a membership vote.

Jump to postI wear a Casio G Shock that works just fine and has some features useful to a pilot. For dress up I've got a couple of expensive watches that will go to my sons in the estate. Some pilots don't even wear a watch. No one cares. Do what you want.

Jump to postOne word: Unsustainable. 50 seat planes are unsustainable not because of fuel cost. Not because the pax hate them. They are unsustainable because there are no more pilots being made. Jump to postI'm not sure it even makes their personnel file (it would go in their training file). But how would I know? Jump to postGentlepeople, standard ops at most majors (maybe all) is that if metal gets bent or if a regulation gets bent (publically) - everyone goes back to the simulator for more training. Jump to postStories with a common thread, video, an offline jumpseaters eyewitness account, a completed internal investigation, and a dismissal as a result of that investigation.
Jump to postThere are many and varying stories making the rounds through the industry. They all have an unnecessary change of control at a low altitude in common.
Jump to postCome on Jetstar. It is 7000' long. It is not that big a deal. How many aircraft are soaking in Flushing Bay? No need for the drama.
Jump to postHivue, as I wrote before. The grapevine reports that the FO was flying a perfect approach. No need for a Go Around. The landing should have been routine. When SWA concluded their investigation the Captain was terminated.
Jump to postYes, it does sound strange. Reports says the FO was locked in the slot on speed on glideslope.
Jump to postThe story making the rounds is that the FO did NOTHING wrong. I'll let someone else tell the rest of it.

Jump to postThrottles at idle in the flare in an MD11? A very bad idea. I've flown it and keeping some power on until touchdown is very helpful in keeping the landing gear on the aircraft. Another reason for keeping the power on is that drag significantly increases during the flare and that can suck away some p...
Jump to postIt is HIGHLY doubtful that a governor would rate anything like that. I have jumped the queue many times but never because someone important was onboard. Jump to postIt is probably ill advised to post this thought, but it really may be apples to oranges. Both incidents appear to be dorked up landings (I totally agree that it is too early to say that definitively). Jump to postAnd it is also a question of what the strategic plan of the airline is. Also is the plane leased? Is the plane fully depreciated? Is its parts value greater than its operational value? Self insured? Any aircraft can be repaired. But you never know for sure with a 14 year old aircraft. I'd imagine th...
Jump to postIt's a good question. A hard landing often buckles the structural elements of an aircraft. A landing hard enough to shear the nose gear probably broke some stringers too. They'll do a simple what it's worth vs what it will cost to fix analysis.
Jump to postI heard from another pilot that this crew 3 pointed the landing with no flare with an immediate nose gear collapse. So I came on here to see if anyone saw it, and lo and behold, BLUEYORKER has the same story. Seems to be the summer for dorked up landings.
