Re: USAF Considering New Build F-15X

Going back to my previous post, actually I'm disappointed that they have to tack on an IRST sensor onto a pod onto a hardpoint instead of incorporating it into the airframe, especially since that's a hardpoint for a weapon or another pod.. Japan's F-15Js already do this.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 108 number was a result of political pressure from SAAB and the Swedish government. 36 fighters is a very small number to justify a production run of, especially when almost half of that number won't even be assembled in your country.

Re: USAF Considering New Build F-15X

Sometimes aircraft get ‘uglier’ as they age with more protrusions etc., but I have to say the latest Eagles are the prettiest, imho. That's an unavoidable consequence of trying to maximize airframe growth potential. It's impressive the protrusions were kept to a minimum on the teen series since tho...

Really? Because you seem to be the one quite mistaken. I disagree on the lack of market of used 767 and especially A330 frames, especially since unlike Boeing Airbus is actively marketing a used boom 330 conversion program, but Ozair brings up a good point about KC-130s and other trash-to-gas haulers. The whole point of low level is to evade high-intensity threats. If only low intensity threats exist the altitude profile will be whatever is best conductive to fu...
