Re: DL/NW Merger....12 Years Later

It's a shame Delta didn't take the initial NW 787s. They would've launched it instead of United, and went A350 instead.

Re: American Airlines DC 10-10 3 class

Weren't these the variants of the D10 that had tape-based PTVs in the F cabin? I think they also flew MIA-LAX. They were still using the 3-class DC-10 on IAD-LAX IIRC up until 1999/2000. I'd imagine any variation with the Weber 7502s (AkA "Woolly Mammoths" when it came to American's 7502s...

Re: American Airlines 767 Cabins Since Delivery

I think this commercial is a 747! That looks like a mockup. 747 sidewalls and DC-10 overhead bins. I don’t know, in one of their final 747-100 cabins (there were two configs), they did have a dedicated business section like this briefly (the one with the sleepers upstairs and regular F downstairs)....

When all you buy are basic economy fares you can’t get angry when the airline ships the jobs overseas. Americans want to “keep American jobs” but they won’t pay to support American wages. We vote with our wallets every day. I pay full fare F on United quite a bit and now that the tables are turned ...

I’m still curious about the pre-sleeperette 4 seat bed setup situation that was not in the luxury suite up front. I would imagine that the Bottom berth pairs of 4 were sold to up to 3 people since the bottom slept 2 to a 4 seat bed conversion and the the top slept 1. Which just seems strange. Two p...

Very sad to read this as I have been a fan of Jon's pictures and a subscriber of Airways magazine since back in the 90's. His pictures of airlines that no longer exist today bring back such memories. Thanks to an article I bought on eBay introducing the PAA 377, the answer is now clear. It was dependent on the sleeper vs non sleeper flight as to how many passengers were loaded. If the berths were going to be in use, they limited the passengers to 3 per group of 4 seats in a berth. That math chec...

Fwiw eastern never even had their own 747. They leased three from PAA from 1970-1972 to determine if it was a fit for them. Pan am really invented the concept of jumbo jet boarding. From concept to reality it did change a lot. It started back in 1966 when the 747 wasn't even more than a drawing. It’s true, the 757 was never a 727 replacement other than when the 727 was used for field performance. The 757 was the non-ER replacement for the 707 and the 767 was the TATL/hawaii replacement for the 707. Also competitor to DC10.
