Re: Raleigh/Durham Aviation Thread - 2019

A lot of this has been known (like the consolidated car rental center), but it sounds like everyone will be routed this way - it sounds like Uber and Hotel shuttles as well as cars. Surprised only 50 seats in the air conditioning. Also says that travel has been growing in the double digits - even be...

Re: Raleigh/Durham Aviation Thread - 2019

Not super exciting, but RDU announced F9 is starting daily ATL and MIA in November. It is interesting. Got to imagine DL,WN, and AA will retaliate. and Frontier, which has been offering Boston service on a seasonal basis, has decided to make it year round (but only 3x in the winter, starting on Nov...

Re: Raleigh/Durham Aviation Thread - 2019

That being said RDUAA is among the worst for decision making. The bottleneck design of T2 security baffles me for a post 9/11 designed terminal. Same for making T1 so small and not ready for other carriers beyond WN with its technology. RDUAA is extremely shortsighted. Another example: they wasted ...

Re: Craziest Airline Routes from the Past?

DAY-CVG on DL was a bit ridiculous. There was also SFO-OAK, LAX-SNA/ONT, IAH-EFD. Mostly for connections, I guess. A friend said that Piedmont flew from Greensboro, NC to Winston Salem, NC. But I've taken 2 crazy ones in my day: JFK-SWF - 11 minutes in the air on a propellor airplane, 44 air miles....

Re: Raleigh/Durham Aviation Thread - 2019

Not directly RDU related, but DL announced at JumpStart today that BOS has been upgraded to hub status and AUS, BNA, and SJC are all now considered focus cities alongside CVG and RDU. https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/delta-upgrades-boston-to-hub-status-on-strong-growth-458669/ Would be ni...

Re: Raleigh/Durham Aviation Thread - 2019

I'm surprised that there is no mention of Via. Via has suspended all service outside of one route from Jackson, MS to Orlando. https://www.al.com/news/2019/05/via-airlines-leaving-birmingham-airport-effective-immediately.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ViaAir How will RDU survive without that oft...

Re: Raleigh/Durham Aviation Thread - 2019

I greatly appreciate this forum. Surprised very little mention of the parking news - rate increases in all lots, plus a new lot opening up. My brother was talking to Mike Landguth this weekend at an airport executives conference, and he didn't spill anything about upcoming destinations. For those wa...
