There was 1x weekly charter flights CLE MBJ for quite a while before COVID from Swift and then Eastern for a bit. Those charter flights have mostly gone away as Frontier partners with apple vacations and also does regular sales for its CUN and PUJ services.

Bookings for MBJ were very poor. I’m sure the travel advisory did not help but I just don’t think the demand exists for 3x weekly on that route.

We need to be thankful that we have a TATL connection. And we need to look to support this route and allow it to develop before considering the possibility of another. DUB would need to be daily and flying without any subsidy assistance before I think it would even be worth looking at another carrier. We definitely don’t need another carrier flying to Europe right now or in the near future.

It appears that Spirit is permanently cutting CLE LAS, CLE MIA, CLE ATL.

In the meantime, Frontier has increased CLE ATL from 4x weekly to daily, CLE MIA from 3x weekly to daily and CLE LAS will continue to run 2x daily through the end of sked.

Cleveland is just more of a logical geographical stopping point as the aircraft go from KEF to either TPA or IAH for service/induction. It doesn’t really make a lot of operational sense for UA to have Airbus service in Cleveland because of the presence of the 737 crew and MX base.

Sun Country offers some great connections to the West Coast at some really great prices as well. A viable option to consider.

$86 CLE SFO on 06/10 with a 1 hr layover in MSP.

You’re correct about frontier’s summer schedule update. That is typically rolled out in mid to late January. Their initial operational plan for the rollout of the base in April should be in place soon. ^^

If the B6/NK merger is approved, I think we can count on B6 cutting a majority of Spirit’s routes out of CLE. I don’t envision JetBlue flying routes like CLE-LAS or CLE-MYR. CLE looks to be on track to reach 10 million pax for 2023. If not we will be just short of it. Did not think that was going to be achievable with a bit of a slow start to the year. Demand remains strong, no doubt about that.

Ops at CLE today have been a mess with the first real snow of the season. A few diversions and scads of departure delays and holding approaches. RWY 6R/24L is closed and a/c de-icing ops have been causing quite a bottleneck.

They said they plan to have their out and back model in place within the next 6 months. They needed more places to put planes and crews to make that happen.

CVG and ORD/MDW are logical places as frontier has a good sized presence in those cities.

People are allowed to speculate in this thread. Just exchanging ideas and possibilities. Frontier mentioned the possibility of using their XLRs for Europe. There’s a non-zero chance that CLE could be a part of that in the future if it comes to fruition.

The upcoming master plan/terminal rebuild was undoubtedly part of the discussion with Frontier, and apparently was not a deal breaker for them. And that’s in the face of Frontier dealing with their own financial issues as of late.

The new terminal design has already been chosen in the most recent master plan update. Reactivating Concourse D is off the table. They’ve chosen the Family 2 development plan which calls for demolition of Concourse D at planning activity level 2.5, so relatively early in the process.

The other issue is United still has exclusive rights to Concourse D. They are still paying ≈1.2M on it every month until I believe 2027. I don’t envision them agreeing to any terms that would allow a competitor to use it.
