Re: What’s the most famous airport in the world?

Think about it, 3 billion people have been born since LAX featured heavily in popular media, people who have been more accustomed to seeing vloggers posting viral content from Dubai. Admittedly, this is a small sample size, but I did not just ask my very online Tik Tok generation kids I have, and n...

Re: What’s the most famous airport in the world?

Definitely not anything in the US. Bland, boring and unnoteworthy with the exception of the often horrendous immigration and security lines. I don't recall seeing LAX anywhere in popular media for 20 years, and the place certainly doesn't get attention from the influencer/blogger crowd. I think we ...

Re: What’s the most famous airport in the world?

I suspect that we're going to get different answers from different people--the UK adjacent folks will say LHR and the US will say JFK based on your sphere of influence. I'd say they're probably a push and in the same realm of fame. I'd push LAX as others have for its frequent depiction in media and ...

Re: Factors Picking a Connecting Airport

I don't tend to worry too much about it unless I know the airport to be a real dump (I prefer to not connect through Newark, eg, but can't be helped with where I live now). Likewise, I tend to think about how easy it is to navigate the terminals. I'll disagree with a previous poster: Atlanta, though...

Re: Would you fly a low cost airline on a flight over 6 hours?

I think, in my opinion, there is nowadays only a minor difference between lcc and full service carriers - especially in the US! I am not talking about carries like EK, QR or SQ - all providing excellent full service. Few years ago I flew which AA from DFW to HNL, operated by a non-PTV equipped B767...

Re: Would you fly a low cost airline on a flight over 6 hours?

As others have said, it varies based on the route and which carrier. I now have a limit for certain carriers that I won't fly them over 3 hours. The final straw was flying on Frontier from NY to Miami, which is around 3 hours. Frontiers seats were so uncomfortable, the pitch restrictive, and the fli...

Re: Air Canada Refund

Was there any business component to the trip that you could have an employer/legal counsel write something on letterhead? DoT enforcement for the US has made it clear recently that "significant changes" to a flight are covered and must be given a full refund. AC has enough assets in the US...

Re: Most boring/ugly airline liveries in your opinion (including airlines of the past)

I find the Virgin Atlantic livery rather ugly and boring. Southwest has always been either drab (old) or garish (new). Easyjet is hideous. Spirit is also hideous. A few of my favorites: KLM and Air France have a sort of timeless classical beauty. I rather like Turkish's bold red. I'm also one of the...

Re: 20th anniversary of Air France 4590 Concorde crash

Does the concept of comparative negligence exist in France? In many states in the U.S. (and elsewhere in common law nations, as I understand it), Continental would likely have been found liable, but damages may have been proportionally reduced to the extent AF’s actions (or lack thereof) contribute...

Re: 20th anniversary of Air France 4590 Concorde crash

Despite being commercially flown for about 25 years, the entire Concorde fleet accrued only 250,752 flight hours (sorry, I can't find the cycles) . Compare that to 50 million flight hours for A330, 150 million for A320. Why does this matter? Because the fact is that if there were a large fleet of C...

Re: 20th anniversary of Air France 4590 Concorde crash

I think the original poster may be thinking too nationalistically/politically in this scenario. I'm not an expert in French tort law (I do know about it in other countries, however). There is virtually no scenario in this case where Continental would be found 100% at fault in most courts. The swiss ...

Re: AA to eliminate meal service on many domestic routes 2,200+

I'm wondering particularly what they mean by short international flights...in the past year I was booked on AA from JFK to LHR and the plane and service were already dismal, even compared to BA's cutback service. I'm hoping they don't mean that on a shortish transatlantic like this they'll hand you ...

A hub that's been missed in this discussion is CLT. It's certainly not as close as some like San Diego, but is closer to downtown and in-town neighborhoods than many airports that have already been noted in this thread.

Re: Tbilisi arr/dep times

Considering a trip to the Caucasus, but in researching fares and routes, it seems all the flights arrive and depart at some seriously weird times. My two options flying into TBS arrive at 03:45 and 05:00. Then flying out, the options are 04:40 and 06:20. This makes for some inconvenience with hotel...

Re: Rude cabin crew. What would you do?

But overall, the service (they didn't say hi, or greet of after the flight) was quite poor. Unlike Ryanair there is no option to report... with Wizz you can only call their expensive call center. Yeah, I don't think you're going to get much leverage with Wizz. I have reported rude flight attendants...

From this experience this morning at Tweed New Haven Regional Airport, we surely must conclude one thing: :boggled: Then we all surely agree: you should have shown up on time. Departure was scheduled for 5:53am; I was there at 5:05. Which is pretty generous at HVN. I've had the check-in people laug...

But WHAT. IS. THE FREAKING. POINT. OF. THE TICKETS..... For a long time at LGA they were to make sure the cab didn't scam you--I haven't taken a taxi from LGA in years, but they used to have the average fair to Manhattan, etc. Bizarre if they didn't have any information for the traveler on them.

I don't know about the MSP green card thing, but organized taxi systems are a good thing that need to be expanded to more cities worldwide. It helps prevent customers from being scammed. That said, the method in London Luton is a mess. Absolutely agree. I was recently impressed with the system at t...

Re: 50 Busiest US Airports, Rankings: Best and Worst Dining Options

One Flew South in ATL is certainly the best meal I've ever had at an airport. Definitely pricey but a nice way to start a special trip somewhere. I do think the airport generally deserves its ranking for food as there is quite a bit going on there. I would add that I've always enjoyed eating at Seat...

Re: Best and worst airport in Europe???

Best: AMS as many have already said. The staff have always been so friendly and they handle a massive crush of people very well. It's not the prettiest airport but very efficient in terminal, which makes up for having to do the 20 minute+ taxi to the Polderbaan on some flights! Worst: It's Stansted....

While the view won't be as fantastic coming into New Haven, the left side will also get you a better view there too. If you get the straight in rwy 2 landing after coming across the Sound (a bit more common), you'll get a nice view of the harbor and up the waterway. If you're a little more fortunate...

Re: What do you think is the worst recently built airport terminal?

This might be an unpopular opinion, but the new Istanbul airport is not pleasant to transit through though it is beautiful. At least one of the piers has a nasty sewage smell, the terminal somehow manages to be stuffy (a feat for such a large an open space), and the baggage inspection to transit fro...

Re: Why Are Bus Boardings so Common in Europe and so Rare in the USA?

I've had this happen more frequently in Europe than some others in this thread report. My previous two flights to Heathrow (BA, EWR origin) have had to deplane and bus. I've also had it happen at CDG within the past 2 years on an Air France flight. I enjoy it when it's a quick flight, but after you'...
