Hello! I am female too. I don’t work in the aviation industry, but have developed a fascination with it. I still remember my first flight at age 16 and realizing the doors that would be opened for me. I live in a remote area, so we only have a few small airports nearby with no commercial service. I ...Jump to post
Well, thought I’d give a little update for anyone interested. Flight #1 from DEN to MCI was delayed. All the airport bars closed so no wine for me. Then we get on the plane and are told the flight attendants will be sitting the whole time and no drink service due to turbulence. That of course made m...Jump to post
As someone whose very interested/fascinated by aviation, but also a nervous flyer (I know, weird combo), I will probably wait a while before boarding a MAX. Granted I almost only fly Southwest, so it may be difficult. I trust Boeing will come up with a fix, but I don’t want to be the first one on th...Jump to post
I know there’s been countless threads on here about fear of flying, but curious if anyone suffers more from anticipatory anxiety than the act of flying itself. I’ll work myself up for days or sometimes weeks before a flight, but once I actually get the flight over with, I realize how silly my fears ...Jump to post
Ugh. It’s absolutely gut wrenching watching the videos from this again, now knowing the number of fatalities. The misreporting on this early on is completely unacceptable.
May all who perished RIP.
What does an in flight engine problem have to do with the airport? Locals: "The service is unreliable, just drive." And then the service dies. I 100% see what you are saying and i do think the general public thinks about flying like that. "Those small planes"......... Only thing...Jump to post
Another article I read says they initially were going to divert to Peoria, but ended up going to Bloomington instead. Not a great look for COU after their recent publicity. I’ve flown this airport several times and personally have never experienced any issues but I’m sure this will cause drama withi...Jump to post

Skywest Flight 5288 en route from COU to ORD makes emergency landing in Bloomington, IL due to engine problems.
Thank you for your responses, everyone. That does make sense why they’d fly over then... mountainous terrain and small population. It’s certainly awesome to witness, though the noise is surprising at times. The ones I saw today were going too fast to get a good look at, but looked like they were doi...Jump to post
This is probably a stupid question, but is there a typical reason for fighter jets flying over certain regions? There are a few Air Force bases in my state - Colorado. But they’re pretty far away. I live in a small, rural, mountain town, but see them flying over every few months. Just witnessed it a...Jump to post
I get nervous flying at times, so I almost always have a glass of wine. If a morning or afternoon flight, a mimosa or beer.
I know that’s not a great way to cope, but it helps me so why not. Most of my flights these days are pretty short and not business related.
[threeid][/threeid] How have the temps been in COU lately? I just drove roundtrip between the Yukon & Alaska - a few days after our temps were well above 50* consistently, it was saggy as hell... almost like a rollercoaster, from the frost heaves /permafrost thaw -- and on the return 2 weeks lat...Jump to post
True about the crash reports... my fear of flying did start around the time I developed an interest in aviation and reading and learning about crashes. As far as turbulence goes, I don’t know that those forecasting sites are always the most accurate, or rather how relevant they will be to your fligh...Jump to post
COU will he closed till April 16th. From the press conference this morning: City of Columbia Interim City Manager John Glascock addressed the public and members of the media at a press conference this afternoon regarding the sudden cancelation of flights by regional carriers at Columbia Regional Air...Jump to post
There is a Facebook thread that has some comments from passengers who experienced landing at COU: https://www.facebook.com/328108501931/posts/10156002864966932/ Sounds like they’re hitting a large bump where the runways cross over. I’ve flown in and out of COU many times and I have personally found ...Jump to post
I developed a flying phobia somewhat randomly, I can't pinpoint one specific trip that suddenly made me a fearful flyer. I like you, struggle with the lack of control. I have other anxieties in life as well, and I've found that at the root of all my fears is a lack of control. For me, the thought o...Jump to post

Can confirm - it’s nasty out here!
Snowing non stop, high winds, low visibility. Everything shutting down.
I am glad this happened midweek rather than the weekend - with spring breaks all of March we have a lot of folks traveling through Denver for ski vacations.
Do you expect them to say they were flying an airplane that they didn't believe was safe? Waiting to see what AA says in a statement, if anything. I appreciated the statement that United made. Straight and to the point, and owning up to the fact that this was a decision made by the FAA they are com...Jump to post
Disappointed in them and the statement they made. They’re still claiming confidence in the safety of the MAX 8, and only did this because they were forced to. If they truly cared about the safety of their customers, they would have voluntarily grounded it. Some of their responses to customers the p...Jump to post
WN has released a statement: https://twitter.com/SouthwestAir/status/1105922734624829441 So according to their statement, "the safety of our customers and employees is our uncompromising priority" why didn't Southwest ground the MAX before now, when they really don't have any choice, but ...Jump to post
Is the fact that the FAA and Boeing are holding out on grounding, due to them not having enough information to make a decision yet? Or because they are in the know about the LionAir and Ethiopian crashes and don’t see a correlation or a cause for concern?
Or do we even know?
My apologies if this is a dumb question, but how long do you think we’ll have to wait to find out initial findings/report? I know traditionally it can take months to year(s). But with all of the groundings and cry for answers, do you think this is placing pressure on investigators to release news qu...Jump to post
Based on the information we have, or rather, the lack thereof, I will not be flying the max till we have answers on the cause of both crashes. No that does not make me idiotic or superstitious. I would prefer to err on the side of caution when it comes to my safety and the safety of my loved ones. W...Jump to post
