Re: Atlas Air 3591 Down in Trinity Bay, Texas

What I don’t understand, is how one puts an aircraft into a 45 degree nose down angle by accident? Especially when the aircraft isn’t actually stalling with full throttle..... If it actually was stalling, sure, the break itself, combined with positive forward pressure could do that. But, they were ...

Re: Atlas Air 3591 Down in Trinity Bay, Texas

when you say "click, click, my airplane," what does that mean? What are the clicks? One of the first lessons I learned as an airline pilot is if the plane/automation is doing something you don’t like, click the autopilot off, click the auto throttles off, take control of the plane. Expect...

Re: Atlas Air 3591 Down in Trinity Bay, Texas

Do I have this straight? - Somehow the TO/GA switch is inadvertently pressed - The FO thinks the pitch up means they have stalled - The FO makes an extreme control input that dooms the aircraft Correct. The go-around mode became armed when they selected flaps 1. The switch was accidentally activate...

Re: Atlas Air 3591 Down in Trinity Bay, Texas

The FO freaked out. Plain and simple. Turning off automation and clearly designating a flying pilot would’ve prevented this accident. If you read this thread in full, there are several 757/767 pilots who have seen an accidental Go-Around activation and described it as a “non-event”. This may go down...

Re: Atlas Air 3591 Down in Trinity Bay, Texas

In summary:

Click, click. Click, click. “My aircraft”.

Would’ve saved 3 people’s lives.

Re: Atlas Air 3591 Down in Trinity Bay, Texas

Anyone suggesting adding cameras on the flight deck are most likely not in professional aviation. I say this because our airplanes and companies already have massive amounts of data about each and every flight outside of FDR and CVR systems. Commercial pilots in the 121 environment are held to such...

Re: Atlas Air 3591 Down in Trinity Bay, Texas

The likelyhood someone tripped and hit the thrustlevers or slouched forward on the controls is extremely low. Given that TOGA isn’t armed until flaps are deployed or LOC captured and it doesn’t necessarily produce max thrust, a more likely scenario that fits both the max thrust and the pitch down is...
