Re: The WestJet Thread

It all goes back to feeding the hub. The more passengers Delta can get transiting through SEA, the better off they will be. As Victoria is a prosperous city and a big gateway to Vancouver Island tourism, I was surprised they could not make it work with a regional jet. Not too many cities that sized...

Re: Is consolidation over in the US ?

Consolidation is not close to over. Actually, I'm expecting a ton of it in the next recession. My bets: Sun country: Bought by Southwest (or maybe Alaska if they don't buy B6), fleet is quite compatable. Allegiant: Bought by Spirit (Not Frontier, why would they buy a fleet of aircraft that they are...

Re: US customs outage

I wonder what happens at preclearance airports when there's an outage like this. If it's at (e.g.) ORD, presumably pax are just treated as missed connections. But a a place like SNN or YVR, do they just hold all the outgoing US flights?

Re: Mom, daughter kicked off Air Canada plane, not told they're banned from airline until it was too late

How can one obey FA instructions to return to one's seat if the FA has seated someone else in it, as the pax claims? There are contradictory accounts of why the two women were ordered off the plane. Paun said it occurred after she got into a dispute with a flight attendant who asked her to return to...

Re: United going after hidden-city travellers

The airlines know this, so they charge more than most travelers can afford for refundable tickets. Then don't fly. The entitlement mentality of people on this board gets out of control. I know several people who want a high performance Italian sports car. There are only a couple of good manufacture...

Re: Toronto’s Second Major Airport

Someone help me understand how a Pickering airport isn't 1) a solution in search of a problem and 2) a new Mirabel. Is it that travel time from east of Scarborough is lengthy and unpredictable? If yes, then how does a whole new airport make sense relative to the cost of improving transit (i.e., cre...

Re: WN Practices Sustainable?

The thing is, in WN’s case, I don’t get why the pilots would be completely against it. Flying to places such as Europe would require a drastic shift in business model and would mess drastically with WN’s core values, so it is unlikely management would acquire the planes to go the distance. Plus, WN...

Re: WN Practices Sustainable?

This topic has been mentioned a few times in this thread so I'll bite: Can someone explain to me how codesharing would work for international travel for Southwest? I am a bit perplexed because the airline uses a lot of secondary airports in key international gateways (SJC/OAK versus SFO, MDW versus...

Re: Alaska Airlines 2nd quarter financial results

Once Alaska is back with the 737MAX, could they enter high yield Latin American and Canadian markets!? Like YYZ, YUL in Canada, PTY in Panama, SJU in Puerto Rico, PUJ in Dominican Republic, BOG in Columbia, LIM in Peru, etc. JetBlue/Spirit is doing it successfully! B6 and NK do it successfully from...

Re: Intra-state flights in Europe (and other parts of the world)

still there are various routes served many times daily: AA flies from CLT to AVL, GSO, RDU, FAY, PGV, EWN, OAJ, ILM all within the same state. RDU, ILM and GSO even see mainline services Yes, but how much O&D traffic is there between CLT and any of those cities? CLT is fortress hub. Don't confl...

Re: American Winning Race to the Bottom

If you're sitting in Y, is the in-flight experience on AA really that much different from UA or DL? Unless one has markedly better on-time performance or seat pitch, well... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (I will freely confess my ignorance about these metrics) And as far as equating F9 or SK with AA - sure, if you're i...
