Well, is not a very great airport (6.2 million passengers in 2009 period) but you have a lot of charters in summer.

From Orihuela is the best airport you can go. You can try also San Javier Air Force Base at Murcia but not sure better and pehaps more difficult for spotting.

I'm never go to this airport but you can spot a/c taking off, on ground and of course in short finals. It's a small airport with a road paralell to the rwy in front of terminal (see google earth).
