seems to have spilled over to the current World Cup in Qatar.
They are both rudder and brake pedals. To brake you push the tops away from you and to use the rudder you push the entire pedal. Fyi there is one pedal on each side of the steering column. Thank you. So there's a little art to the maneuvering of the foot to push the top for braking action, and full...Jump to post
Perhaps it is time to develop Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for planes if speed is below V1? Why? What would it have done here? AEB would create another layer of both benefit and hazard. An impeding collision would have to detected looking only at the active runway surface, not looking that ta...Jump to post
This didn't set off alarm bells with investors?

In the photo above, see the two black tracks near the boom end on the fuselage? Those are director lights-up/down, in/out. You get two green lights in the center of the envelope. There are limit switches which disconnect as you approach the boom limits. Can’t say how big the envelope is, but on a b...Jump to post

Does ICAO stipulate somewhere within its legal jargon something along the lines of:
The investigating authority must provide a final report within xx weeks/months of the crash.
or is it completely open ended, where xx -> infinity
Whatever happened to the saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? What happens if the cameras/video feed on the KC-46 craps out? Do they have a contingency plan in place whereby the boom operator can physically eyeball and control the boom from the back of the plane? KC-10: https://www.y...Jump to post
How old is the fleet of C-130J that the RAAF is replacing? By the time the new units come in, the original batch will be 30 years old! A 30 yr old Herc isn't that old - Lockheed built those things like a tank! Plus, doesn't it also depend on the number of cycles? Has the RAAF been running the fleet...Jump to post

Ah, re-reading The Hunt for Red October for probably the 20th time right now.

Wonder what that achieved? Apart from pissing people off who'd bought tickets to look at the display....And of all people? King Charles has been championing the environment long before it became chic...
The economy hasn't changed "that" much in the last six months. Germany has been seeing 7-10% of inflation over the past year, with no sign of a return to "normal" levels in sight. On top of that, the exchange rate to USD has dropped by 10%. Combine a sustained medium-to-high inf...Jump to post

About 1/2” after spinal compression fracture of T12, but even without fracture, it’s not uncommon to have some shortening which may or may not go away over time. A good friend got out of a Hun (old tech seat) and lost a half inch and had neck problems for the rest of his life. That was a controlled...Jump to post
Speed, attitude, rate of descent (ROD) all create an envelope of safe escape. Yes, seats may be designed to zero-zero, but that means straight up attitude, zero airspeed, zero ROD. Compromise on those factors and you need to add elsewhere. This pilot got out with some upward vector, at high roll ra...Jump to post
