Re: F-35 now and then

I am a little confused. The first F-15s arrived at Langley in 1976 which is when it was first put into active service. The last F-100F from the Guard was retired in 1979 but they had not been stationed at Langley since the late 1950s. So, I as an amateur, I am kind of curious how this encounter wou...

Re: Japan wants the T-7a (What are they thinking?)

Was this captured in the RFP before the T-7 was even designed? Probably yes. But probably buried. If I were to guess, it would be something like this: The design is to meet the requirement per some MIL spec. Boeing having proposed the T-7A using off the shelf ejection seats assuming that since it w...

The T-38 was introduced 60 years ago. The T-7 is probably expected to fly until 2080 (if we still train pilots by then). The average US citizen weighs 30lbs more than 60 years ago. It is hard to guess how it will be in 2080 but humans tends to get taller and heavier. Was this captured in the RFP be...

It seems unrealistic to design a cockpit/ejector seat combination to match pilots' excess weight. Is spending tens or hundreds of millions to accommodate pilots' excessive weight a sensible use of defence funds? I suspect it would be cheaper to pay the very small number (I imagine) of seriously ove...
