Re: Cleveland Aviation Thread - 2019

Well now with UA departing in May they may probably expand with more AA NY flights from CAK. Its interesting that CAK opening of its new gates have been moved from late 2020 to mid year 2020. So who knows what is happening there, but something is up. Its also a fact there is some CAK area flyers th...

Re: The Rest of Ohio - 2019

That would be somewhat in line with DAY, which lost EWR but gained an IAD segment. https://www.cleveland.com/business/2019/10/united-adding-new-flights-between-akron-canton-airport-and-washington-dulles-dropping-newark-route.html "At the same time, United will drop its twice-daily flights betw...

Re: The Rest of Ohio - 2019

ATL-CAK is a 738 tonight. That's got to be a first, right? No, I noticed them last week. MD-88’s are gone, right? What did you think they would use? Still can’t believe there Still at CAK. The DL MD-88s are still very much around. I believe there are 60+ in the fleet at the moment and another 30+ MD...

Why would they not be at CAK, 1.2 million people in the CAK area. I would be surprised if they were not at CAK.

Re: The Rest of Ohio - 2019

I won’t be surprised if UA drops EWR flight out of CAK. The afternoon flight was frequently delayed. Also, CAK will have a total of 4 brand new gates upstairs to combine with 3 others gates already there. Rumor has it that AA will get 2 gates for there 11 daily flights and Delta will get 3 gates wi...

Re: The Rest of Ohio - 2019

Hasn't really worked out for them in CAK. Not sure why DAY would be different. Why do you say it hasn’t worked for them in CAK? The fact that they continue to cut routes and capacity since they debuted in the market. They have reduced there destinations from 6 to 3. It is interesting that they are ...

Re: The Rest of Ohio - 2019

100% correct, and to use it I drive by CMH to get there. I still think NK could take a shot at DAY. They'd have no F9 and a lesser G4 presence to deal with at DAY as opposed to getting into the ULCC hornet's nest at CVG. Start with less-than-daily MCO, RSW, and LAS and see how it goes, maybe settin...

Re: The Rest of Ohio - 2019

I don’t understand the argument about competition. I think CAK and DAY are on decline because the fortress hubs are gone, and fares at CVG and CLE (not as familiar with CMH myself. . . ) have fallen pretty dramatically. If anything a bigger CVGand CLE have a greater prayer of handling more competit...

Updated figures for CAK from the airport's website:

- January 2019 total passengers: 64,042 (-14.3% YOY)

Does anyone have any ideas how to turn CAK around?
