Re: Boeing 737MAX Grounded Worldwide Q3 2019

Probably old news to most of you in this thread but this guy on YouTube, Blancolirio (a 777 pilot and A&P mechanic) has done some very informative vlogs on the Max issues and resolution. Check it out.

Re: Boeing 737MAX Grounded Worldwide Q2 2019

Should we believe Boeing that they started working on MCAS update back then? As it was pointed out, they have financial reasons to paint things beautiful. Then, does it take that long to do one procedure? How many decades does it take to design new plane with such pace? Last, but not the least... W...

Re: Boeing 737MAX Grounded Worldwide Q2 2019

Good try, but.. 1) Your conclusion isn't valid. In particular the ET crew placed the aircraft into a dangerous situation before MCAS was a factor, meaning a definitive predictive statement of a safe flight isn't correct. 2) If we change the criteria to "all else equal, had a different crew bee...

Re: Boeing 737MAX Grounded Worldwide Q2 2019

Seems we are forgetting that the MCAS in both crashes was preceded by some failure in the AOA sensors, other than talk about single sensor, one can get the impression from all the comments that MCAS version any kicks in without any trigger event. One can assume that since there is very little talk ...

Re: Boeing 737MAX Grounded Worldwide Q2 2019

I think it's pretty clear that any airplane that pitches up so significantly when power is applied that it needs a computer to avoid a stall because it doesn't fly like other 737s sounds like a serious issue. The situation that triggers MCAS is not typically triggered by the application of power. A...

Re: Boeing 737MAX Grounded Worldwide Q2 2019

My confidence and trust is forever shaken in Boeing. After watching the 60 minutes Australia, reading commentary from pilots and this article https://medium.com/@gregoryreedtravis/the-case-of-the-737-max-b6b1869839b6 I don't know how the Max could ever be trusted. A question for 737 pilots, if the ...

Just a guess that Q1 was still a little too early for exposure to the unraveling of the bad news.

Re: Boeing 737MAX Grounded Worldwide Q2 2019

The more I read the more I think Boeing has lost vast amounts of customer confidence that could haunt them for years. Deservedly so. The article I posted by Greg Travis that posted last week from IEEE spectrum was really on target.

Re: Miami Air 737 runway overrun into river at NAS Jacksonville

No. Once the reversers are out and/or any noticeable braking has occured you won't attempt to go around any more. Spoilers are afaik a bit more variable since these are usually automatically deployed on touchdown, can be stowed quickly and don't actually slow the aircraft much. You have a few secon...

Re: Boeing 737MAX Grounded Worldwide Q2 2019

The ET crew seems to have turned off the electric trim before counteracting MCAS due to a misunderstanding or misapplication of the procedure. Either way, since it was recoverable, and relatively simply so, MCAS is not the worst design in modern aviation. The tendency for some people to exaggerate ...
