Re: Updated: SAA shrinks even further, laying off staff

Aren’t all the A340s not airworthy or is it only a few. Why would you think that? The remaining owned A340s have been flying regular repatriation and cargo flights in recent months. I can see ZS-SNC/D/F/G and SXF in recent weeks. This article https://onemileatatime.com/south-african-airways-getting...

Re: Updated: SAA shrinks even further, laying off staff

So more and more planes are going back to their lessors (9 alone in the last few days), but still a rescue plan approval by the creditors. With which aircraft is SAA supposed to (re)start their operations? Nine aircraft; three A319-100s, four A320-200s, and two A350-900s. And the owned A340s. Aren’...

Re: DL to permanently retire entire 777 fleet

Now that proposed schedule is released, with less than 2 hours stop at JNB, I think you're correct. The JNB stop makes going through immigration really tight. Nope SA doesn't work that way.. Take SQs SIN-JNB-CPT-JNB-SIN for a better example... Pax that fly SIN-CPT-SIN stay on board in JNB while a c...

Re: DL to permanently retire entire 777 fleet

I think passengers on ATL-CPT will need to get off at JNB to pass immigration. If for nothing else, the plane needs to be cleaned and serviced after 15 hr flight from ATL-JNB and they can't do that with passengers onboard. For reference - When CI/BR flew from TPE-JFK with a stop at ANC, all passeng...

Have you been in a cave when DL have printed straight gold on this route ever since it launched? If Delta are investing in putting their flagship on this route don’t you think there’s a chance it would be possible. JNB is not a route that is marginally profitable, it is one of the MOST. The political interference and corruption has been systematic and endemic for at last a decade (maybe decade and a half). Before then it had its problems, but certainly not in a catastrophic manner. There are a lot of comments re the 77L and cargo. What kind of cargo was DL hauling ATL-JNB and LAX-SYD? What kind of shipments and shippers does DL (and any commercial airline for that matter) target? Why would a shipper go to DL vs air freight company? Although the A350 may be capable for DL’s ne...
