Re: Budget DSLR camera

Noise reduction software is a bit of a double-edged sword as it doesn't actually 'get rid' of noise — rather it basically blurs parts of the image to give the effect of doing away with it. That's why you get a variety of ill-effects when you overuse NR software. i agree, but this software is amazin...

Re: Budget DSLR camera

I don't own the 4000D and even if I did I wouldn't be offended. My point is that better isn't always 'better', if you know what I mean. The 7D was certainly a great camera but some low-end Canons have surpassed it now and its higher ISO performance was always lousy. For standard aviation shots (and...

Re: Budget DSLR camera

Why is the 7D 'loads better than the 4000D'? The 4000D benefits from a much newer processor and, unless you really need the increased burst rate, the extra fps isn't a game changer. 10 additional focus points for most aviation applications won't be noticeable in the real world either. Besides, the ...

Re: Budget DSLR camera

the only camera i can find which is around your price is the canon 4000D new which is about $250 but i also wouldn't say it's the best for aviation photography because it only has 3 fps and only 9 auto focus points the only thing i can suggest which is pretty good at aviation photography is the cano...

I can only judge based on what I can see. If I were to screen that image, I would decline it for being soft (at best). The nose, tail, registration all appear soft to me. The tail in particular looks blurry. As for examples of sharp images, any accepted image in the database can be considered of ac...

An obstruction as shown would be OK since it does not involve the landing gear, engines. The Acceptance Guide says "...ground crew are allowed to block any part if not too prominent, which is at our discretion)." However, your image as is, probably will be rejected for being blurry/soft. ...

All of the first 6 photos need CCW rotation; however, the first photo will most likely be rejected for motive, as the horizontal stabilizer is clipped; the second photo of the UAE 773 could use a slightly higher contrast, as well as the Loganair ERJ, which is also cropped too close, IMO - after CW ...

20C is still plenty warm enough for haze to develop across open land. Hope you enjoy your 8-12 visit but just bear in mind that the results likely won't be acceptable here unless you can get pretty close to the action. ill be getting very close this is a 1 time a month thing and you get right up cl...

Re: need camera settings

Are you test shooting indoors or in bright sunlight? If in sunlight and you're not on auto ISO(?) there's a rogue setting somewhere that needs sorting. Select a semi-auto mode (or manual) and set the ISO yourself, to 200. i tested it on some flowers outdoors not in bright sunlight it was about 6 to...

They don't generally look too bad but the conditions are against you. At this time of year heat-haze is a problem at the times you're clearly shooting (light is harsh, giving nasty contrast) so my only advice would be to go out either early morning (sunrise-0800) or evening (1800-sunset). thank you...

Re: need camera settings

Auto ISO kind of assumes you've got the world's unsteadiest hands and so over-compensates by selecting an often ridiculously high value. In bright conditions I'd set the ISO to a base 200 (many would argue 100 but the difference is practically non-existent and so always better to get the shutter sp...

Re: best camera to buy

Don't take DXOMark too literally as it's all theoretical. Basically the more megapixels your camera has, the greater the pixel density, meaning the lens has to work harder to get the best out of the sensor. In theory, when using the same lens, you will lose sharpness with the 7DII compared to the 7...
