Perhaps was it already mentionned but European airlines then also flew to the Far East by heading west through ANC, like ZRH-ANC-NRT Finnair was the first western European airline flying non stop to Tokyo, starting the HEL-NRT service in 1983. Sounds more like some Finns have spent the whole winter in the Canaries (eg they own appartments in Tenerife) and only return to Finland once the weather improves. Perhaps not people who needed to be rescued to get home... Yeah the passengers were mostly likely winter birds you described. It looks ...Jump to post
It seems the rescue flights are not over yet. Finnair just operated an A350 flight collecting people from Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Flight AY7095, routing TFS-LPA-HEL. The short hop TFS-LPA took 21 minutes for an A350.
It looks SAS are not returning to HKG after the curret crisis.

Yesterday and today Finnair have been using their A359s to bring travellers home from Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Some use for the widebodies... It seems LHR still gets AY widebodies, for cargo.
Finnair is using widebodies to bring people home from the Canary Islands, tonight Tenerife (TFS) is getting AY A359. The same arrengement tomorrow, to both TFS and LPA.
Furthermore if you are under the age of 50 (that might be a little high in age) there is high enough chance you could have the disease and be asymptomatic or haven't shown symptoms yet and could pass that on to someone who is high risk to die thus can easily overload the healthcare system. In Italy...Jump to post

Finnair used to fly HEL-BKK-HKG/SIN, before HKG & SIN became direct. My first ever Business Class flight was BKK-HKG on AY MD-11 one way, the price was so low even an young backpack tourist could afford it. the first uncontained outbreak is unraveling in Italy. God speed to everyone, this is going to be a bumpy one. Another thing is, now that AS joining One World is official, AY could open a nonstop route from HEL to SEA.
