HUD on commercial aircraft.

Seeing as how HUDs are making their way into commercial aircraft e.g. standard on all 787's, most commercial aircraft don't seem to have HUDs equipped. Is there a case for the HUD being a practical piece of equipment on commercial aircraft? I noticed that for example certain A350 operators chose to ...

Pretty much the entire Fedex fleet has it, starting with the MD10. It's the little bump on the radome.

Noticed some 777's don't have that bump, let alone a heads up display. So far I've only found 3-ish with both radome bumps and heads up displays.

Fedex 777 EFVS

I noticed from reading articles uploaded a while ago that Fedex planned and (presumably) did install EFVS systems on their 777 fleet. However, I've noticed that certain Fedex 777's do not feature this system, nor have I found one with a heads up display. Would anyone have an explanation behind this ...

DL600

https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/71507/delta-extra-tokyo-detroit-service-mayjun-10/ Some time ago DL operated a special one-way service from NRT-DTW with an A333. My question is, how did they pull it off and why did they choose the A333? The 242t variant wasn't unveiled until 2015, ...

Re: A330-300 242t true range

So from the chart and the roughly 10% less on trip fuel estimated, 242T A339 can do YVR-HKG, a 14h+ flight on winter, with no seats blocked, and even some cargo for 251T model. Really curious to see if B78X could do the same (14h+ route with no seats blocked) on 254/257.5/260T. This chart refers to...

Re: A330-300 242t true range

Interesting, how would you run flight plans into Excel? I'd like to do the same. Also for clarification, the data applies for the 242T variant of the A330-300 right? The flight planning system is more of a “mainframe” style application where different studies (flight plans) are generated. The outpu...

Re: A330-300 242t true range

Seems like a pretty cool app, do you mind sharing the application used for this purpose? Thanks. It’s not an app, I ran flight plans and put the relevant data in a quick excel spreadsheet (with a spelling mistake “Paylload” ;) ). Interesting, how would you run flight plans into Excel? I'd like to d...

Re: A330-300 242t true range

My query is, in a hypothetical situation, would an A330-300 be adequate in being utilized on routes between 10,000-11,000km without unreasonable payload restrictions ? Examples of before-mentioned routes thereof comprise of AKL-LAX, HKG-YVR, SIN-LHR or NRT-ORD, and the like. I ran some flight plans...

Re: A330-300 242t true range

It would be at its limits assuming the A333 carries 277 passengers and each passenger is 100kg, plus a bit more of freight. However, would it not still be theoretically feasible, given that the A333 has exceeded 10,000km in a few instances?

A330-300 242t true range

The A330-300 has been improved incrementally over the preceding decades to supplement its capacity and capabilities, further augmenting its already stellar versatility and deployment opportunities. The most recent 242t modification has been given an advertised range of 11,750km, which Airbus purport...

Re: Cathay Pacific future fleet/route plans

A lower MTOW A35K does seem like a feasible replacement for the 773, I doubt they'll reconfigure 77W's since it's a long haul aircraft and not very good at short-medium haul (High MTOW and such). Perhaps they can be derated, but even then, a regional 77W would only be a temporary stopgap since a new...

Re: Cathay Pacific future fleet/route plans

I wonder what CX will use to replace its fleet of A333's and 773's. As indicated above, the 773's are here to stay for a while, and there are plenty of younger A333's in their fleet too. However, all things can't last, and soon both of these medium haulers will need a successor. I suspect the 78X is...

Would you rather fly 747 or 777

For those that happened to have flown both the 747 and 777, if given a choice, which aircraft would you prefer flying and why? Am genuinely curious.

Re: A330-300 vs. A340-300 range

So let me get this straight, the A330-300 cannot carry the same passenger payload AND fuel capacity at the same time as the A340-300 because it has a lower MTOW? So this would mean that the A330-300 would have to trade passenger capacity for fuel to achieve a similar range as the A340-300? Exactly....

A330-300 vs. A340-300 range

With the 242t upgrade, the A330-300 can now fly even farther and carry even more than before. The 242t A330-300 has a fuel capacity of approximately 109.2t, and the A340-300 carries slightly more fuel at 110.4t. However, the range difference between the A330-300 and the A340-300 seems massive still ...

A340-600 with two GE90's

What if the A346 had two GE90's just like the 77W instead of four Trent 500's? It is noted that the reason the A346 did not sell well is due to its fuel consumption compared to the 77W, so would having two GE90's made the A346 more competitive? Would the A346 sold like hotcakes and exist as a formid...
