Re: Memphis Aviation - 2019

I wonder if Fed Ex flew a 767 over. They have before. Penny has a loaded basketball team as well, The Griz need to find the right pieces to put around Ja Morant, he's really damn good. I have been mentioning Memphis is quietly about to start surprising folks. First time since my childhood that Memp...

Re: Memphis Aviation - 2019

That program is bringing lots of positive attention. I am curious how ATC deals with the blimp as well It was actually a Cessna 208 rather than a blimp. MEM pattern was northbound and there were few departures after kickoff to deal with. Interesting! Thanks for the info. Also, some of these comment...

Re: Memphis Aviation - 2019

I don't know if this was previously discussed or announced, but I was just browsing some flights in February, and it looks like AA will be sending an A321 on the CLT-MEM route for at least a few days (Feb. 8 - 10). It's AA 1757. Certainly more air traffic this weekend with college gameday! Business...

Re: Memphis Aviation - 2019

I noticed that Allegiant going nearly daily to Vegas next summer. And 5x weekly to FLL I believe that Southwest will get around to adding LAS when the MAX issue is resolved. I think Southwest can easily overtake/run off Allegiant with ease on those routes plus the connections that each could offer....

Re: Memphis Aviation - 2019

Not to mention when Spirit eventually starts MEM flights which will stimulate a lot of demand of travelers that would have otherwise drove to their destinations. I noticed that Allegiant going nearly daily to Vegas next summer. And 5x weekly to FLL I believe that Southwest will get around to adding...

Re: Memphis Aviation - 2019

Memphis has been growing at about a 5.5% clip this year, about the same as last year. Daily flights in August averaged 90 and overall traffic to the end of August was at 3,048,000, an increase of around 150k from the same time as the year before. Apparently OCT has been busy for the airport with tr...

Re: Memphis Aviation - 2019

OKC is not a bigger market not SDF. Memphis kinda sits on an island and has a larger catchment area than many give it credit for. MEM already has more enplanements than SDF, OKC, ORF, GRR and GSP. Memphis has a legit 2 mil plus catchment area. Here is a list of the population of the Combined Statis...

Re: Memphis Aviation - 2019

Spirit Airlines is rapidly growing and might be a good candidate to try MEM. There is clearly plenty of space and the terminal is under renovation. The question is can any new route be sustained. ULCC, while often ridiculed, do offer a viable alternative. It gives the consumer the ability to determ...

Re: Memphis Aviation - 2019

Seems that FedEx has hit a rough spot recently, https://business.financialpost.com/news/retail-marketing/fedex-plunges-after-slashing-forecast-on-trade-war-slowdown wonder what the impact will be on airport revenue, if FedEx has less operations will this drive costs per enplaned passenger higher? S...

Re: Memphis Aviation - 2019

Yes I am concerned by that @melv2012. FedEx does a lot for the Memphians in both philanthropy and employment. If their business is down, no doubt things will get tougher and their will be more layoffs in a city that desperately does not need them. In turn, if an already uncompetitive market becomes ...
