I think there are around 300 crew in the base, which makes it one of the smaller bases in the network. The numbers do fluctuate though as Australian based crew transfer in and out on temporary secondments.
Jump to postThe next federal election needs to be held before or on 21 May 2022. As to Scott Morrison’s re-election as Prime Minister*, I would say it is unlikely. His handling of the pandemic, in particular the vaccine rollout, and his inaction over allegations of sexual misconduct in his party have negatively...

As Thomas Cook went bust two years ago that's unlikely! Oops, my bad haha! Sorry, I meant to say TUI. Was just referring generally to the holiday/charter style airlines. B6 isnt a holiday or charter style airline. Their product is on par or better to any network carrier and it is launched from two ...

It will interesting to see how B6 go with UK point of sale (once travel restrictions ease of course). I have no doubt they will be strong with USA point of sale, given their large customer bases in NY and BOS, as well as an overall nationwide brand awareness. In the UK, there is little brand recogni...
Jump to postI searched for a topic covering this point, but was unable to find one. I flew UA952 to EDDM 04 AUG; the aircraft assigned was a B-787 (leave it to someone else to ferret out the aircraft #). I found the self darkening windows to simply SUCK. Am I really the only Business Class passenger paying for...
Jump to postThis is kind of off topic, but I’ve got two questions. One, how are these flights typically staffed? I’m assuming the crews fly something like CDG-JFK-PTP-JFK-CDG. Second, does AF serve meals in both cabins on these flights? Thanks. :) There is an Air France flight attendant base at PTP/Guadeloupe ...
Jump to postIn the 90s, EVA Air flew to PTY. I believe it was via LAX and operated with the 747 400 combi. I know that there was the shipping link between their parent company, Evergreen, and the Panama Canal, but still always stuck me a unique/cool route. Malaysia Airlines also flew to MEX. KUL-TPE-LAX-MEX wit...
Jump to postAnd sometimes these allowances spin out of control and become so large it affects the route profitability: the former Qantas FRA route springs to mind. Let me tell you, if the profitability of a route hands on the balance of allowances for crew, the airline has no business flying that route in the ...
Jump to postHas there ever been any talk of a customs facility in the central terminal area (T1/2/3)? I seem to recall reading something about it once. Surely that would not only make for a more streamlined passenger experience, but would also benefit AA and UA by removing the need for towing aircraft from T5 ...

Jump to postPure speculation on my part, but could it be that the last few rows are blocked in order to create a buffer between passengers and the galley? An element of social distancing so that the flight attendants can have a workspace that is slightly removed from the flying public perhaps?
Jump to postIt’s closed now, but surely Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport deserves an honourable mention
Yeah it doesn't make sense and all it does is cause a pain for passengers. I can't tell you how many times I've been on the first flight out of MEM to have the gate agent tell us the crew is running late from downtown. No reason for it. Rest assured, airlines find these types of delays just as much...
Jump to postAnd wide-bodies on short and medium haul are not really viable these days; it's mainly narrow-bodies with more frequency. But back when the A300 came out, the engines on the 747, DC-10, L-1011, and A300 were much more efficient than anything yet available on a narrow body. There also weren't open s...
Jump to postWith regard to applying for certain and specific FA bases, everything is seniority driven and all vacancies are to be filled by seniority and then remaining vacancies filled by need, especially with new hires. In a nutshell, when you get hired you will go to one of the main hubs within the contiguo...
Jump to post1 or 2 years ago I was considering to apply for the FRA base but the requirement was to have a either US citizenship or a greencard so I assume all the employees would have at least a greencard and be allowed to relocate to the US but I doubt anyone would consider this in the current situation. Jump to postAs others have very correctly posted, in regards to Australia, the likelihood of any change to the current system anytime soon is very low. A successful referendum in Australia requires the support of the majority of voters in a majority of states; which already sets the bar quite high. The 1999 res...

Hi everyone, I was just looking at JL and NH’s networks out of the respective Tokyo airports and was wondering if anyone had any insight into how their crew are based there. Given that both airlines have substantial networks out of both HND and NRT, do they have separate crew bases for each airport?...
Jump to postQF LHR based crew have actually been operating to Australia for quite a few years now. In addition to PER, they regularly operate to MEL and SYD (via SIN) as well.
After the QF 10 from LHR, the layover for the cabin crew is 48-72 hours in PER.
LHR T2, Landside: Too much of a reliance on lifts to move people between levels. There are not enough of them and they are quite small, so there is always queues for the lifts. Only one (slightly dizzying) escalator to get from ground level to departures, similarly a very tucked away escalator to th...
Jump to postIn regards to Qantas for example who allow international crew transfers, if a Oz based FA wants to relocate from say MEL base to LHR base and is married, does the airline assist in visas etc for both people or is the partner/spouse left to arrange this themselves?
