Re: SAT - New Service Announcement

Crazy things is Austin approached S.A. about building a regional airport between the two in the 80's and S. A. officials scoffed at the idea. When Bergstrom AFB closed it became a moot point. I guess hindsight is 20/20. Proposals for regional airport for San Antonio-Austin first surfaced around 197...

Re: SAT - New Service Announcement

I hate to say this, but SAT is a dying airport; practically on life support especially with COVID-19. The only saving grace for the area is if Austin and San Antonio create a new airport between the two, it can certainly become a DFW-lite airport. Otherwise, in due time, I think even ELP will surpa...

Since AUS gets mentioned a lot, I'm going to take a look at how they could expand there. I don't think it will reach focus city status. Would still be a no. Emirates has Houston and Dallas. And? They have no feed there. By that logic, why have LH at AUS with IAH right down the road with massive feed on both ends? Emirates doesn’t need feed. The logic isn’t consistent. Lufthansa serves an insanely larger local market (by a factor of...

AUS TPAC is interesting. While AUS has healthy aggregate TPAC demand, the distribution within Asia is unusual. There’s relatively less Japan/TYO demand and relatively more to TPE. Not sure how that shakes out for service. ICN is probably the most sensible gateway but no one has been very interested...

The problem with AUS is that it's a lousy location for connections, except I guess to interior Mexico. That makes it had to see a BNA-type buildup there even though the local market is probably the strongest of the three.
