Re: Sir Tim Clark "A380 is OVER"

The Whale killed by a microscopic virus. Among other factors of course... The real whales - the 747s - are still alive as the cargo versions are busy, in part due to the virus. I've never referred to the A380 as a whale - if forced into using a nickname, I'd call it Uncle Fester. UA's 747 Whale com...

Re: Southwest Airlines planning on squeezing competitors in weaker positions

Isn't this kind of obvious? WN got a huge war chest and very little debt. They can sustain a money losing competition for a while to capture market share and build new fortress hubs. Many easy moves for them to make: - Acquire smaller airlines to either eliminate competitor (NK), add slots (B6) or ...

Re: Rumor: Richard Anderson to replace Doug Parker at AA

Didn't he leave with a no compete clause? I had heard RA left delta before the last US election thinking that Hilary was going to win the presidency and she was going to Name RA as the head of Transportation for her administration. Needless to say that did not happen.... and the Amtrax job became av...

Re: DL Portland Asia hub in the 1980's

Correcting my above post. TPE was an extension / tag route. It was not flown nonstop from PDX on Delta. I flew TPE-PDX nonstop on Delta. Delta flew that route non stop 4 x a week and the other three days thru SEL (kimpo). This was short lived...ended sometime in 1994/95. Delta pulled out of TPE and...

Re: HYPOTHETICAL: If AA goes under...

Pan Am died of a slow death...piece by piece being sold off.... If AA goes under....they have some very valuable pieces! 1) LHR and slots (B6 can you afford any slots?) 2) Miami Hub and Route rights (UA its yours for the taking) (although DL can also make a play) 3) DFW (DL you need a presence in TX...

Re: UA planning layoffs but not AA, DL etc..?

Bit puzzled as to why United seems to be an outlier here, planning significant Pilot lay-offs and numerous other cuts in all ranks throughout the company Yet AA, DL and others are not taking the same action or don’t appear to be So is UA being smart and proactive here or overreacting and risking be...

Re: Still no Asia service from CLT?

CLT is not ATL or DFW....Even OW Japan Airline hasn't considered it in the past ... with Covid affect air service....and AA's ability to come out of this intact... CLT will not get Asia non stop service in the next decade. BTW...what Corporate Account(s) based in CLT could support/guarantee a certai...

Re: IATA: Middle East Countries Not Doing Enough to Support Airlines

I thought Qatar's situation is very different than that of the UAE...don't they have oil and gas reserves to last them for about 500+ years? Thus state supported QR can really be the bully on the block when this Covid situation subside and the aviation world returns to "sort of normal" in ...

Re: AS to join OneWorld / AA to make SEA an Intl gateway

Seattle will be more loyal to AS if it becomes a fight to the end. No doubt of that. Seattle will be loyal to the airline that gets them to where they are going for the best price. They aren't going to fly an airline only because it is based in Seattle. The idea that AA is ready to build an interna...

Re: AS to join OneWorld / AA to make SEA an Intl gateway

""I agree. The potential for Chapter 11 seems relatively high for AA, the potential for Chapter 7 seems extremely low. And the first airline to go through Chptr 11 after all this will likely end up with a strategic advantage, as much as it hurts equity holders. My initial comment on EV was...

Re: AS to join OneWorld / AA to make SEA an Intl gateway

so based on these last few comment since I brought up the AS/DL hook up...would it be feasible for AA to go all in (internationally) @SEA and attack Delta? Delta has said it will shrink (they have to) like all others.... will they just exit what they have built if AA comes in with AS by its side? Do...

Re: AS to join OneWorld / AA to make SEA an Intl gateway

I wonder if the crisis is going to have any impact on Alaska joining OneWorld. when this crisis shakes out...perhaps Alaska will not want to team up with a weaker AA.... perhaps it may want to team up with a weaker Delta and actually make Seattle a domestic/international rival to SFO....just a thou...

Re: JFK Terminal 2 Final Flight

Does anybody know what gate and destination the final flight had? What about the equipment? Will this terminal ever be used again before it is finally demolished? Delta took over the entire terminal after they merged with Northeast and Northwest. I wonder if the Jitney buses will be reused after Te...
