Re: International Departures at Canadian airports

Large Canadian airports have distinct domestic, transborder (pre-cleared by US CBP), and international areas. The international area is always separate from domestic in these airports to allow for seamless sterile connections through Canada, something lacking in the US making transit more challenging.

Re: The WestJet Thread

It shouldn't be ahead of YYZ,YUL or YVR! I think it will be all 4 hubs. YOW has no overseas flights now that LHR is suspended. As I like to remind people on the WS thread, YUL is not a WS hub. Closing Montreal to international flights would have zero impact on WS. But massive impact to everyone els...

Re: Air Canada Suspends Lethbridge, Medicine Hat

I've always been surprised that a city the size of Lethbridge doesn't have either YYZ or YVR service. It must be such a time wasting hassle to transit in YYC. WestJet’s hub in YYC is much larger than YVR; AC is opposite. YYC is the logical hub for that airline. YYZ is too far away for an aircraft s...

Re: The WestJet Thread

Here’s what WS could do to significantly build their presence at YOW, over say the next five years, so that they’re not only relevant, but a strong #2 to AC, instead of their current situation of being on par with Porter (assumes the MAX is back by the end of 2020): I think YOW has potential at som...

Everyone here seems to have forgotten that WS has literally tried to build up YUL before, borderline having similar capacity as other cities in the network that had focus city status (BOS, Florida, Sun Destinations, 5x daily Encore to YQB, ect). Re: The WestJet Thread

I've never talked about a hub. Just about decent service increases to large destinations (year round service to Vancouver, more than one flight a day to Calgary, for example). I think this is pretty doable as both YVR and YYC are hubs. Just to be clear I'm not saying Westjet should start YUL-CDG (i...

Again I'm not saying this is easy or that it's going to happen in the next year. Eventually though, they won't have a choice. They have to service Montreal? They don't have a choice? It's all about the dollars. You offer enough U.S. pilots good money and you'll get some. I'm not saying it's easy, but the talent pool is there. Not like we need to take a bunch of Dash-8-400 pilots and teach them to fly Embraers.

Like it or not, Westjet is openly aiming to become a true national, full service carrier. YUL expansion will just naturally fit into that goal at some point. They're not going to start 50 new routes and station 100 planes at YUL tomorrow, but for sure they'll have to expand it at some point, especi...

WestJet should at the very least be dominant from YUL/YOW to western Canada. They can't even pull that off, not even close, not even YYC. I wonder if it would be worthwhile for Westjet to try to grow YUL in a couple of years, once the Air Canada/Transat merger is done and many flights from YUL skyrocket in price.
