To add to that: MSN 60297 was actually built for Air Lease Corporation to be leased as PH-BKM

So its plausible that KL's acquisition department must have thought: Hey look, we are missing one letter, lets just lease one to finish it off... :biggrin:

Their 787's will get the new PE seats over the next months.
By 2023, it will go in tandem with the 777 World Business Class renewal as well. So two birds with one stone I believe.

PH-BKA now scheduled this Saturday August 27th for KL641 AMS - JFK And AMS-LAX on August 28th as KL601 This aircraft will probably be flying a lot to JFK and LAX until other PE equipped aircraft come online. Its the first aircraft, so using these routes is a good way to test/trial all the new cabin...

KL still has a good relationship with Boeing, why give that up? Their 744's for example were very well maintained untill their premature retirement, switching to Airbus widebodies seems like a huge capital blow. Boeing already planned the 781 to be the direct competitive succesor for their 772s

PH-BKA (B781) scheduled to leave AMS hangar bay on August 31st for her inaugural flight with KL's all new Premium Comfort cabin. US routes will get the debut.
OAG shows KL602 AMS-LAX with the only 781 on the schedule that day, remains to be seen if this will be true

I think they dont need to. B6 can fill their seats more easily by flying narrowbody across the Atlantic. Its an advantage if done right it can be sustained for years.
