I see what you mean now. I’ve never seen a disabled jet bridge forcibly moved away from the aircraft. It’s usually fixed by the airport authority relatively quickly or like others have said, you can always easily push back with the jet way on- just have to be careful. Narrowbody you can put the tow ...
Jump to postDo you not tow or “pushback” regardless? Or do you move the bridge out of the way and make hard turn and taxi out? (Rare in the USA)
Jump to postI’ve worked in a hybrid environment. I much prefer to have my own tools, know where they are in my box, and have all my specialty and rarity tools ready to go when I need them whether it’s a one off wrench or something that’s been custom fabricated to make my job easier and safer.
Jump to postI personally haven’t changed many tires for flat spotting in my careeer- If any. I don’t think landings impact tire wear that much. You generally get your money’s worth out of the tire. Makes me think any kind of wheel spin up device is largely irrelevant.
Jump to postHow’d it wind up between what appears to be the vehicle service road and the taxiway?

Virgin, British Airways, Discover, Condor, KLM , Edelweiss all serving LAS currently with more to come.
Jump to postFor all intents and purposes LAS has a stand alone international Terminal.
Jump to postJay, there’s no metric on airliners. You may have missed the jokes. No mechanic anywhere working on airliners has metric tools anywhere.
Jump to postMy Snap-On 1/2” socket is clearly engraved with “1/2-12.7” right on it. Swear to god. … …
Jump to postAll the big commercial western jet stuff is not metric, but sometimes you run into the exception, and I question whether it’s actually a /32nd measurement…. I frequently see metric dimension tires on airliners from Europe etc… I’ve worked on some smaller German built piston aircraft and metric faste...
Jump to postLift up any seat cushion in any class of service on any airliner… You will find bits of peanuts every time. Along with other delicious treats.
Jump to postExcept the inoperative component would still have to be installed. No-go if it’s missing.
I suspect whoever stole it needed it real bad for their own purpose and took the first one they came across… assuming it was just the FMC and/or CDU.
Anyone know what the minimum quantity is required for dispatch? V2500 and PW1000 powered more specifically. If anyone wants to add other airframe/engine combos go for it. Include max capacity too if you are in the know.
Jump to postIf the #1 engine failed, could the ART (Auto Reserve Thrust) have activated and commanded max power+ on the #2 engine? And maybe went unnoticed?
Jump to postCan’t really do a flight control check on MD-80 elevator. Control cables only go to the tabs.
Jump to postWoodreau, the three operators I deal with ALWAYS start 2 first and than 1, if it’s single engine taxi they start 1 only and that’s a wrap.
Jump to postParking brake set. Set up for single engine taxi on left engine only. It sounds different than after a normal 2 than 1 start. (As viewed from the ramp)
Jump to postDoes an A320 With V2500 idle at a different speed with just the left engine running (single engine taxi)?
Jump to postSome MD-80 have the ice detectors on the wings because upper wing surface ice would likely damage an engine if ingested. Other MD-80 have one of two different manufacturers heated pads instead of the detectors making the detectors not necessary. I believe there’s one other system as well but I can’t...
Jump to postCheck out autofuelstc.com. That will answer your question for US airports. There’s plenty of planes running around with STC’s for 87, but I’ve never known anyone to use it unless the trucked it from home… Many places in the US you can’t get ethanol free gasoline with I don’t believe any or most of t...
Jump to postSpoilers take roughly one second to transition up or down. If you were in a dead silent hangar where you could hear a pin drop, you would not be able to hear spoilers being actuated. They don’t make any noise. Of course you can hear the hydraulic pump being loaded and unloaded but that noise would b...
Jump to post.04 is a good buffer. Dessert cakes, mouth wash, and cough medicine… of note, .04 is the limit to turn a wrench on a plane too. I’m my experience with various U.S. 121 operators…. Company policy is usually .00.
Jump to postI think what he meant is actual access. Whether or not there is a bulk cargo door, you can always gain access to that area from the aft cargo door. There is no actual partition. You are free to walk between the two areas.
Jump to postWhy is it Airbus are typically equipped with integral brake fans for cooling AND heavily utilized, and Boeing- to the best of my knowledge never been equipped with them and never has issues with hot brakes?
Jump to postWe were once stuck on the tarmac in a 744, and somebody came into the cabin by way of the nose wheel and through a hatch on the cabin floor. Can anyone enlighten me how that worked? They came through the EE Bay access door that is aft of the nose gear. Climbed the integral ladder into the passenger...
Jump to postIt's a feature on the A340, it can be deactivated by the crew if the aircraft is light. Jump to postZinc chromate (ya they still do it), CIC (corrosion inhibiting compound), paint, etc... Its good “clean” aluminum. As long as the aluminum isn’t all mixed up with the next lower valued metal you’ll generally get the top dollar. That’s my limited experience over the years... The scrapper doesn’t care...
Jump to post45¢/lb in my neck of the United States for good clean 7075 aluminum. 747 weighs around 400,000lb minus components, gear, avionics, wiring, interior etc... maybe 200,000lb clean aluminum left over? Just a guess. I’ve seen that joint down in Marana cut one up faster than you would think they could if ...
Jump to postDoing it by the book, how long to remove an engine? How long to replace one? Many answers there. Depends on the type of engine the type of plane, the components that need to be swapped from the take off engine to the install engine (QEC engines typically have most of the components on the new engin...
Jump to postThe handle is free to rotate 360° when pulled partially out. When pulled fully out the splines engage the door mechanism and as the handle is rotated the door opens. So the only concern here would be: Can the airflow in flight be enough to pull the handle fully out and engage the door mechanism? Pro...
