I have a theory myself of what happened to Mr. Barnett and if a legitimate investigation were to be done i'll just say that there could be a whole lot of folks in the Aviation industry and a few airlines included facing RICO charges but it will be a shoddy investigation.

Harsh thing for me to post but often i look at some of the airlines and some of the unions and they are cruising in the R.I.C.O. part of town but then return to their own turf. DOJ someday needs to do an internal investigation on some of the corruption in the airline industry.

The Air Tran purchase was a Kluster and had SWA acquired HA it would have been an even bigger Kluster. Very good analogy WNCrew. Esentially part of what you are saying is what i have been saying for years is that Southwest has always been Reactive instead of being Proactive.

Sometimes they would look from the jet bridge to look at the the number one wing and determine if deicing is needed. Very rare but i have seen a Captain or FO request a ladder from the fueler or maintenance to touch the wing.

Often when the F.O. would do his or her walk around especially on an originator they would inform the Captain to Deice if needed.

Most cold weather airport operations discourage deicing at the gates though it happens from time to time . Usually there are one or two and maybe more depending on the size of the airport that will have a designated pad for deicing. My favorite deicing story when i was with Southwest at MDW was year...

A girl i worked with Broke her ankle trying to walk down the jet bridge stairs with an SUV sized Stroller and i think a Manual Wheel Chair many years ago.
One item up or down at a time from a Jet Bridge is the safe way to avoid injuries and damage to the customers items.
